I know this sounds dumb, but what calibers do " small Pistol" primers get used for and then

Where do Large Pistol Primers begin, caliber wise. I am thinking all of my pistols except 22 are going to be LARGE, 38/357 being the lightest caliber I own.

No chance you have any large pistol primers? platekiller

Platekiller, From what I have been told, Small pistol will do nicely for my 38/357 needs. Now I get to wondering as I see Magnum Small Pistol. ( I presume there IS a difference and something like a 38 would be regular CCI 500 Small Pistol, and 357 would also be small pistol, but Magnum version number 550. Am I correct?

If I need large, I would then be using CCI 300's for a 40, 44and 45. Still pondering how to make it all work having never reloaded any pistol ammo yet.
Come to think about it, I have to check to see if I even have 38/357 dies. I totally forget what I bought in years past. Having my shooting and reloading buddy kill himself didn't help me either.

Sorry to hear about your friend. The only time I've used magnum SPPs was with H110 or WW296 in the 357. Since then I've quit using those powders and instead use 2400 or AA9 when I need high velocity. They ignite fine with non-magnum primers. Magnum primers are hotter and thus may be needed for hard to ignite powders. Key word...may. As always though, use whatever your legitimate loading manual calls for.

Bisleyfan44, thanks x3.. As many times as I've lost friends, some hit harder than others. I was just pondering things, and realized something. Since I was 18 and started losing buddies, I just added up the numbers and how's of each death. Not to be morbid, but 1 was CO suicide by tractor, 2 shot themsves, my lady friend was shot by her husband but lived, others passed from aneurisms, or heart attacks or car accidents. I almost forgot, my buddy I used to shoot n reload with drowned himself. Now back to reloading. I'll check my inventory of powders n dies n parts for ammo. Gotta get stocked up.
