 By a vote of 5-5 today the SJP Committee killed the Maryland AWB with an unfavorable report. The vote would have been 6-5 against it but Sen. Jacobs' father is very ill and she is out of town to be with him.

Let's hope that we exerted enough influence this year so that "the juice isn't worth the squeeze" and they don't try to petition it to the floor.

I'm going to thank all of the senators that stood with us....with a big fat check. We need to help them build their war chests NOW and not wait until the elections.

I just called and left a message of thanks and support......it took 44 seconds.

Let's have him come in tomorrow to hear the sounds of our thanks and wishes for a good weekend.

I'm wondering if I should invest in some Häagen-Dazs stock now before the CeaseFire crowd starts making their runs for comfort food at Giant.

Equally important, let us NEVER FORGET the names of those treacherous political hacks that sponsored and voted for SB43, and contribute to their pro-liberty opponents next time around - not just in the general elections but in the primaries as well!!!

Can we get a "sticky" for this (and other legislation impacting our 2A rights)?

I am hearing rumors that the 5-5 vote was on the death penalty repeal, not SB43. Didn't they originally say it was going to be 3/16?

Are we 100% sure about this? I mean - I hope I am wrong and SB43 is indeed dead. I also don't understand how this happened with a split vote 5 to 5.

I understand the death penalty repeal was killed today too. But yes, this does happen on a 5-5 vote, the bill needs a majority for a favorable report to get out of committee. I will post the text of the e-mail from the AGC legislative VP here. There is no more reliable source than him:

"Subject: COMMITTEE VOTE - SB 43 MARYLAND ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN OF 2007

The Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee voted on SB 43 today.

By a vote of 5-5 for an unfavorable report, the Committee killed SB 43.

    Voting Against SB 43

    James Brochin

    Larry Haines

    Alex Mooney

    Bryan Simonaire

    Norman Stone

Note: Nancy Jacobs was not present – she is out of town due to the death of her father yesterday.

    Voting For SB 43

    Brian Frosh

    Lisa Gladden

    Jennie Forehand

    C. Anthony Muse

    Jamin Raskin

Thanks to all of you who helped to make this victory possible by calling and writing the committee members. Special thanks go to the 210 gunnies who took a day off work to attend the hearing and provide testimony.

    Well Done!
