Sweet!!! But, what's this?

That doesn't see like a very reliable story.

The Obama administration blocked the purchase of 87,310 M1 Garands and 770,160 M1 Carbines in 2010, saying the American-made antique rifles could “potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes.”

they have over 700k m1 carbines they wanna send too

wait, i just read the last part of the article

M1s were made first in 1926 and used during World War II and the Vietnam War. The carbines were first produced in 1941 and used during the 1950-1953 Korean War.

They currently sell for around $220, according to another defense ministry official.

Wow. I guess since my late Father was Korean War Navy vet I would be eligible for one of these. Glad I have his DD-214. At that price would buy 2 if I could. Hope CMP gets them and keep the distribution fare.

Is that price the wholesale price to Korea?

I suspect that by the time they get through the pipeline to us, they'll probably run around $400-$600. Depending on condition.

That's my GUESS... I'm not in the biz, and may be way off the mark. Maybe Lou45 or someone else who specializes in C&R's, can provide some informed commentary?

But yeah.... if they're only $220, I'm stocking up myself!

Unfortunately, I deleted Stephen Wenger's morning alert, but it contained an article that said the U.S. Government will accept Korean M1s, but not the carbine.

The 220 you are seeing is the price that the Koreans will sell them to a US importer for. Lots of bad info floating in this thread.

Word on Korean surplus M1 rifles and carbines is that the majority were rid hard and put away wet. A small batch of ex-Korean service Garands hit the market briefly a couple of yrs ago and they were extremely rough. They sold cheap enough but I would expect most to require a new barrel to be of any use other than for parts. Ask anyone who has one of the M1s imported by "Blue Sky" back in the late 80s. They also came out of Korea and suffered to a high degree from rough duty. Just google "Blue Sky Garand" to get an inkling what's potentially coming our way. Makes for a good C&R horror story for the campfire.
There are reports of small numbers of unissued examples but I would expect those to fetch big bucks like the CMP "correct grade" and auction examples.
Perhaps investing in replacement Garand barrels might be a good move at this time, corner the market before the flood gates open!

That's okay, any I'm likely to get are going to be put away wet.

I'm picturing something much like those original Kar98's that SOG was selling a few months ago....
