Do they still have the " you can't donate if you have lived more than 6 month in Europe" BS?

There are several stipulations related to time spent in Europe.

You are not eligible to donate if:

From January 1, 1980, through December 31, 1996, you spent (visited or lived) a cumulative time of 3 months or more, in the United Kingdom (UK), or
From January 1, 1980, to present, you had a blood transfusion in any country(ies) in the (UK). The UK includes any of the countries listed below.
  • Channel Islands
  • England
  • Falkland Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Isle of Man
  • Northern Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Wales
You were a member of the of the U.S. military, a civilian military employee, or a dependent of a member of the U.S. military who spent a total time of 6 months on or associated with a military base in any of the following areas during the specified time frames

Yeah, apparently the FDA is taking a more drastic approach than either the CDC, the WHO or any other health agency.

The other two big disqualifiers are:

No aspirin for 48 hours before donating
No new tattoos or piercings for 1 year prior to donation

Such a shame that I got that belly button piercing last week... nah, it's because I'm a platelets donor and the FDA won't let me donate if I lose too many red cells.

You can still donate blood while you are a platelet donor. I am and I do.

Yes, you can, but I've run into problems before after mixing and matching donations. The way I view it is that I usually give 3-6 pints of platelets for every unit of whole blood.
