As I'm collecting bits and pieces to build up a lower or two.

I ran across an upper in 7.62X39, I like the thought of having an upper in one of my common calibers.

    Anyone have one?

Is the buffer spring in a standard AR 223/5.56 good enough for the 7.62X29 recoil?

    Any advice?

I have a 7.62x39 AR, and I love it! I'm not totally sure about the buffer spring, but I think the normal one would be fine.

One thing you might want to watch out for would be ammo with hard primers like Wolf. Mine doesn't ignite Wolf ammo very well. I mainly use Silver Bear which doesn't always work either, but most of the time it's fine. I just reuse those rounds and they normally work fine on the second try.

I keep going back and forth on it, part of me says yes it would allow me to shoot a caliber I keep on hand for my AKs. I like the caliber, and now you can get decent but not perfect C products mags.

    The other side goes..........na.............

I have one....its my favorite AR in my collection. I didn't build this one but i'm not familiar with a 7.62x39 having a diifferent buffer and spring. I picked up a 30rder at York one year

The CProducts mags are great! I haven't had any problems with my 30rd or 10rd mags. I always find the 30rd ones at the Chantilly gun show for around $25 each.

Midwayusa has them listed for ~$30
~$27 with dealer discount, and I have them shipped to PA.

    Is $440 a good price for a del-ton upper in 7.62X39?
Are there any other brands with a comparable or better price?

Is that a complete upper? It sounds good. I paid a little over $800 for my entire rifle after taxes.

That's a great price for DTI!!! I figure @ $500, for just the upper alone but $440 is pretty good.

I tried to give Del-ton a call because, I'm a bit confused on how they list their products:confused:

    Stock Status: In Stock
    Availability: Currently Unavailable

most likely have to wait for next week for further investigation.

I think its a great decision!!! If you have an AR in .223, bring them both and you'll get hooked on the x39. Carries a good punch:D

I have plenty of AKs, SKS', and a Rem 799 in X39. I'm kind of biased against the 223. I know, I know: "Blasphemy". You will have this also after 20 years ;)

not counting 22LR plinkers, my smallest caliber is 270 Winchester. :D
