RUGER Mini 30 Pros/Cons

Thinking about buying a used mini 30. Any opinions/experiences you can share would be appreciated.. I'm not interested in a mini vs AR discussion even if you think I should be...Thanks

Pros: Minis rock.

Cons: Good luck finding mags.

If the price is right and it comes with mags, go for it.

7.62 is far more effective and legal to hunt deer with. The stock options are almost as limitless as for the 10-22.

Early ones had feed issues.... don't know if that's fixed or not BUT I like the gun itself. Option 2 is buy a SKS.

Mini-30 is more accurate than an AK or SKS (s/n: 581- or higher)
Mini-30 will digest any ammo you feed it and spit the empties in the next county until you replace the gas bushing

I don't own a 30 yet. I have owned a few 14's.

I love the platform. I had heard the early 30's had a habit of breaking firing pins. I have fired a few 30's and they are reliable, accurate and user friendly.

As with any mini, factory mags tend to work best and can be pricey and hard to find.

Good luck. Check CDNN for pricing and availability. They typically have the best prices on mini's.

Old ones had .308 barrels.

New ones should have .311 barrels.

They will eat anything. Ruger mags= GOOD. Other make mags = BAD,BAD and BAD!!!

Ruger makes a 20 round mag now.

I use one as a bad weather deep woods deer gun. 25 deer under it so far

Appreciate all of the feedback.. It's the K mini (stainless) version and asking price is $795. Looks like it was made 1993-94..Metal is perfect and the stock has a couple of scuff marks--nothing deep..

I paid $699 for mine about 6 months ago and it was brand new stainless model.

I would wait for a new 581+ model as it will have a .311 barrel instead of a milled out .308.
