I just love complete thread titles like this that express exactly the information that needs to be conveyed.

So much better than "What a mess!" "Big 495 problem" and "Important please read" which are like TV News teasers.

    I work in Wilmington.

Traffic is a frigging nightmare in the morning commute with no end in sight.

A roll back driver that does business with our company drove across the bridge a couple of hours before DELDOT closed it. He thought he was getting a flat on the front left of the truck. Turns out it was the bridge and not his tire.

The scary part is that they found the tilting columns by accident. It seems that a near by engineering team that was working on another project happened to notice them.

Sadly, the way the infrastructure is crumbling, I think we will see a lot more of this kind of thing on the way.

where is the bottleneck , can get off the last exit of 95 before the Tydings bridge ( think its rt 155) take that north up to US 1 , you will screw Omalley as no toll on the RT 1 bridge and screw Delaware as no toll crossing into there .

Interesting... I just googled Wilmington, DE to see on the map exactly where the bridge is located. Google has already updated their map to show that I-495 is no longer continuous. Instead, it shows 495 ending about .5 miles south of the Christina River and then picking back up about 1.5 miles north of it.

They are now reporting the repairs could take weeks, not days.

    What a mess.

They are quoting weeks just to devise a plan to stabilize the bridge. They have no idea how long it will take to actually make the repairs. This is going to be closed for a long time.

Fortunately 95 or 495 are not on my commute to work, but I do run 95 for work (ambulance) and occasionally 495 to bypass Wilmington if we're going up to Philly. I mostly work nights so avoid traffic anyhow... except for Tuesday night, got stuck a little late on a transfer to Baltimore and ran into the start of morning rush hour south of the Christiana Mall. That's 5 miles before the traffic usually backs up, and it was almost stopped. Ouch... it took one of our day shift trucks 40 minutes to go 8 miles. So glad I work nights!

I got a text from Delaware online Sept 1 at the earliest.

I don't have to go that far to often but, going to look at possibly going over 295 and back over by Camden to get to airport.
