Search seems to be broken (at least for me - keep getting stack dump errors). So I'll just ask.

What are the rules for a non-Maryland resident, full time student with regard to hand gun possession? I have cousin's daughter coming to school in Baltimore and wants to bring her .380 with her.

Does she have to register it?

    Thx

Only persons moving into the state with the intent to establish residency must register their handguns within 90 days. Is she going to get a MD DL?

Nope, no intention of establishing residency (license, car, vote, etc).

    Thanks

Might be a no go. Most schools have no firearms policies in dorms, plus you have to be 21 to own handguns, and any juvi records can disqualify a person until they are 30.

As I understand it, a college is not a school. It is an institution of higher education.

The only option for her to keep any kind of a gun (long or handgun), is at a private residence. There is also an exception in the 18 U.S. Code § 921.

Yes, if she had a private residence off campus. Although that said, if she's coming in as a freshman, off campus housing might not be the best bet.

    Lots of good discussion.

She's 22, no criminal offenses and will be living off campus in a privately rented apartment while going to Hopkins. I have no knowledge if the apartment complex/management has rules against it but I didn't sign the lease so I don't know.

I like the katana comment! :party29:

    Thanks for all the input,
