I know myself and some others have decided to never buy Beretta from here on out. They gave in to MD libtards and didn't use what power they had to stop 281 or at least water it down. I say Glock!! or S&W

Looking to purchase my first hand gun. I think I have narrowed my choices down to the Baretta PX4 Storm full/compact or the Glock 17/19. These are all in the same general price range ~500. The main purpose if the gun will be range shooting and home defense.

I am looking at the compact versions only because of my wife like the feel. However I would prefer the full size.

The reason for my post is to get your opinion on either weapon. Good or bad. What is your experience with both or either weapon?

I have fired the Glock 19 and I plan to shoot the PX4 before purchasing.

Can't go wrong with a Glock 17. It was my first handgun

They did water it down..... They got their carve out.

Go back and watch what they said during testimony, they said they could not stay here with the way it was written regarding dealers and manufacturers, so an exception was written in allowing them to continue unabated.

Again thank you everyone. This next question probably qualifies as a new thread. I noticed most guns do not have 10 round magazines. How does the purchase process work for in state and out of state purchases? More specifically the transfer of the magazine over 10 rounds? I understand out of state regulated guns have to be registerd and online purchases go to a local MD FFL, etc... The question is regarding the magazine.

I know for my AR I can go to PA/VA and pick up a 30 round mag and bring it home and use it. Does the same apply to handguns?

Thats actually an easy question. You MAY NOT buy a firearm here in the PRM that as a greater than 10 round magazine, .22 excepted for built in tube mags. You need to find a pistol that has 10 round mags to purchase here in Martyland. If you want the STANDARD 15 round mag for your G19 you need to buy it out of state and bring it back with you, just like your AR mags.

You can bring mags back, not the firearm if that's what you meant. Even if bought out of state, the MD FFL by law must remove the mags before the firearm can be transferred to you. Buying or shipping your mags to a location out of state is the only lawful way to do this.

I have heard of too many problems with the PX4. I love my glock 23 so i would say glock all the way. My friends has a M&P 40 as well as glocks he prefers the glocks. I will say the M&P feels good in my hand you should give it a try too

I asked my two "go to" FFLs this question recently. One told me they pin the mags limiting them to 10 rounds. The other told me they could either pin them or ship them free of charge to anyone I'd like to "donate" them to out of state. :innocent0

They also indicated some of the manufacturers are starting to ship the pistols to PRMD with 10 round mags.

If I can offer a suggestion: think about the caliber as well as the gun. Some brands and rounds simply don't go well together. Same goes with same caliber in same make but different model.

Example: I own an Springfield xD .45 4" service pistol. The 5" tactical looked better but in firing I found it had too much weight forward to be a useful self defense pistol and caused issued with holster retrieval. The 3.5" compact xD in .45 had issues reported with group consistency in the 230gr .45 acp due to the same twist rate as the 4" so lacked stabilization.

Example 2: when I was in the market for an HK USP I was debating caliber for availability it power. After doing the research I decided that I needed more punch then a 9mm but more "bang for my buck" so I went .40 s&w. Then I had to decide size. The USP has a compact and full size. Given the punch that the .40 s&w has I decided the full size would have enough mass to allow quicker return fire in a pinch. I would be able it more quickly re-acquire my target with less muzzle lift.

These are the kinds of research you must look at when buying a pistol.

Then again I also have a .44 mag super Blackhawk. When that tree is blocking my target and I need to get through. ;-)

Do not buy the PX storm. Personal experience with jams, malfunctions, and failures to feed. Over 1/3 of my training class had malfunctions with that handgun. With that said the pros are it has a good trigger and is rather accurate and easy to shoot.

The flaw with your logic is that the issues occurred with a training class. Might that have anything to do with the failures, jams, etc?

Most of the first hand reviews of the gun I've read do not speak of anywhere near that problem rate even after 12k rounds.

I own both a PX4 and a Glock, my reasoning hasn't been mentioned here. I prefferred an exterior hammer on my first semi auto handgun because of the obvious cocked indication. I've never had a fail to feed or any other problem with my PX4. I like both very much, but preferred the safety decocker and hammer to the striker for my first couple semi automatics. There is a difference in the grip angle so that needs consideration as well. Shoot as many as possible, then decide.

I know it's not one you're looking at, but I have a PX4 Storm Subcompact that I've been happy with--two actually, one for me and one for my wife. We've shot many hundreds of rounds with them and never had a reliability issue. Maybe it's because the subcompact doesn't have the rotating barrel like the full size and compact.

I would be curious to know if any of the PX4 naysayers actually have owned one, or if their experiences are hearsay only. Seems like all the pro PX4 posters have or currently own one, and those that say they aren't any good have heard stories from others.

As for the training class experience, I have had similar experiences with new shooters having problems because they either weren't chambering the rounds correctly or were limp wristing on recoil. It didn't seem to matter what brand of pistol they were using at the time. Now if this was occurring with experienced shooters in training, I might be worried it was the firearm rather than the shooter.

Never owned a storm but had a 92fs. The Beretta was an older Italian model & shot perfectly. I traded it in for a glock 19 gen 3 few years back. Just because of it size, weight & plenty of accessories. Never went back to Beretta after I made the leap. Good luck in your decision.

I've shot a lot of different 9mm pistols, I'm sticking with my CZ-75b. I have not had a problem with any 9mm loads out of this pistol, from WWB to the heavier sub-sonics. Reliable non-factory magazines are cheaper than the Glock or the Beretta. And it's actually been a military issued pistol, unlike the others mentioned in this thread.

Id prefer the glock out of the two however you may want to check out the springfield xd or xdm similar prices but id take one of them over px4 and glock. Also if you can find one a cz p-07 I have one I love it. Cost is 450-500.
