Get the 795, I've shot accurately at 100 yards with iron sights on it and you can get 25 round mags from pro mag that work excellently.

I can vouch for the pro mag 25 round magazine. Has performed without a hickup.

If you were wondering on what the guts of the 795(or 60 for that matter) look like, I broke my hammer dry-firing a few years back and recorded me figuring out how to put the new one in. Forgive the lettering. When I jumped the files from one computer to the other, they showed up. I'm clearly not a youtube channeler #1 professional like RR or shootingthebull. The 795 is not too bad to work on, but isn't as simple as an AR by any means. There are a couple annoying little springs to worry about when you yank off the side-plate to get to the hammer and such.

What alternative would you propose? Im not a 10-22 fan.

    Semi auto .22 rifle?

I would strongly suggest looking at the 10/22 50th anniversary rifle. I'm not a fan of 10/22's either, but this particular iteration speaks to my simplistic design preference.

Unless you are willing to some digging on gunbroker and other sites for a pre remington marlin 60/795. They are out there, just no so easy to come there.

    Here are come CT 795's

If you're going 10/22, I personally have a boner for this one...

just be sure to lock the bolt back before trying to take it apart. One of the counter-monkeys at basspro managed to break the extractor on one by cranking on it to try to take it apart with the bolt forward.

My brother has the 60 and I have the 795.

The nice thing about the 60 is that you don't have to mess with magazines.

The nice thing about the 795 is that you don't have to mess with a tube.

Since you say you can get the 60 cheaper now, that's what I'd go with. Back when I bought mine it was the opposite - the 795 was on sale at Dick's and I think I walked out with it for just over $100 with tax.

Not messing with the tube is kind've nice. At hap baker and other ranges, it's easier to keep the muzzle downrange and safely load from the mag. If you have a couple mags, you can even maintain your shooting position and just fill er up to continue shooting. The tube is a bit more of a PITA for that.

I'm still kicking myself for not getting a 795LTR when they were producing them.

Yeah, the tube is kind of tedious to load up each time. I have four mags for my 795, but for a while they were very hard to come by (or highly marked-up). Looks like they are back in stock most places now.

    795. Does anyone make reliable 25+ mags for it yet?

It's a great little gun, wish there was an adjustable stock version to teach younger shooters. Helped an 11year old a week or so ago and it was a tad too long for him. He still had fun and could operate the rifle.

I have both. I have a standard 795, and a stainless with laminate wood stock. They are both accurate and reliable with MOST ammo, except Remington Golden Bullets and Thunderbolts. Federal and CCI, no probs. Aguila too. I prefer the Marlin 60, for looks, as well as the extra capacity of the tube and it's lower profile. I also am not fond of loading the metal mags on the 795. My thumbs get sore after a while, and it's faster just to load the tube on my 60 than the mags of my 795. Of course, if you can find multiple mags for the 795, that makes it better, but I think the 795 mags are over priced. My 795 is lighter than the 60, but my wife liked the 60 better. I think the barrel on the 795 is a couple inches shorter as well if I recall. If you are looking for the better Marlin, I like the classic 60. BUT, the 795 ain't bad. If you are looking for a gun you want to accessorize, buy a 10/22. If you want all tactical, save up and buy a 15-22, because no amount of money will make the 795 a 15-22. Just my .02
