357 sig is a powerful cartridge but I would go 45 all day. Availability of ammo and components is probably one of the highest of any out there.

While not a speed demon 45 is a great cartridge in itself. I miss my 1911 :(

Own both calibers in the same series, M&P series.

The .45ACP is tried and true and as common in the universe as helium. The 357 SIG is a fun round as well, more muzzle energy than my .45ACP handloads (and they ain't powder-puffs to begin with), more FPS than 9/40, and a flat shooting round out to 105 yards (less than 6" of drop).

Even with those things going for it, I'd still suggest .45ACP. Ammo's more available, easier to reload, cheaper in general. Either way you go, your going to be having fun. :)

I have a Glock 22 (40S&W) and got a spare 357 sig barrel for it. It's fun to shoot but 357 sig ammo is not easy to come buy. 45acp can be bought just about anywhere ammo is sold and one heck of alot of fun to shoot too. If I could have only one it would be a 45 jmho

For whatever it is worth, the .357 Sig is used by the U.S. Secret Service. I have no idea why they picked that one.

I found it interesting that the muzzle blast and flash from the .357 Sig GREATLY exceeds that of my 1911 .45 ACP. My son-in-law and I shot those side by side and I quickly developed a dislike for the .357 Sig for exactly that reason.

I don't know how the .357 Sig compares to the .40, however.

    YMMV.

Penetration, with the right ammo the .357 sig was designed to have exceptional penetration through clothing and soft barriers. Hence its early adoption by many LEOs and then subsequent fade from glory. Its a good cartridge, just fading and hard to find ammo for. Good if you relooad.

You know how the secret service likes penetration, especially with Columbian professional women.
