Similar to the Levang but lends more the the Noveske KX3 in theory.

We keep getting questions about a longer version for 308's. The more requests we get the more it may become a reality but weight savings vs. practicality are a concern. We want it to be durable, affordable and as light as possible while still achieving the desired outcome. With that said the Shield will work with 308 mounts. Could it work better if it were longer, maybe. The concussion is still projected forwards. In the end, we have to give the people what they want!

I second a longer version. After finally getting my SBR ALMOST finished (damn LPK's are not in stock anywhere.....well at least for under 130!!) My handguard comes all the way to the end of the YHM flash hider and a longer one would really help it stay clean inside. As far as weight goes, it would still be lighter than with the can on it, and since most people wanting these have cans, wieght isn't such a big deal!

After showing the pictures and talking to a few other guys with very similar setups, they have also stated interest in a longer version, they just aren't on the boards and can't post for themselves. I'll be more than happy to Beta test one for you, and give you some honest feedback!!

On the AAC 51T mount it uses a set screw to lock it in place... if it was a ball/spring/detent, I'd be all over it like stink on poo... now I'm just pondering. Set screw?

Been there done that. We could not source out a robust ball-detent with enough spring pressure to work correctly. It would have to have a large band of material around the base to house an acceptable spring/ball detent. With that said, you are correct in saying that is the best way to do it, if it were possible.

Set screw - To replicate AAC's ratcheting system would have made this cost prohibitive. Set screw while not elegant, provides a sturdy and reliable product. I wish it was as easy as the YHM one, that is perfect.

Perhaps something like this would work... I think this pic is a homemade gemtech adaptor. They used a groove machined on the inside with a spring steel ring bent to engage the teeth (and secured to stop rotation).

I ordered one this morning, the set screw may not be perfect but its better than what I have now. Even with double hearing protection my ears ring when I shot the 7 inch 5.56 upper.

I will give a range report when it comes in.
