Shame to see this happen. New Jersey's laws are pretty over-the-top.

I point out one potential inconsistency in the facts posted to that website. It states both:

1) He had no idea he had the gun with him until he was unloading the car.

and

2) He assumed (mistakenly) that his registration and permitting would be sufficient for the purposes of New Jersey law.

These statements may or may may not be contradictory depending on the timing of when he thought what. It may just be written poorly. but the latter makes it sound like maybe he knowingly brought the gun with him.

The problem I see is. How is one supposed to know each state law when they cross the border? Isn't America made up of a unified nation but instead it seems to be comprised of many small "countries"each with their own set of laws.
