Still have to work on some things, keep letting a flyer go - but at least I call them when they happen. :o

**Bipod and Harris adapter are now gone, picked up the Harris BR-12A bipod today. Much better fit for me on the benches I shoot from, and from prone.

Bolt gun noob here. Just picked up a Remington 700 AAC in .308. With a factory 1/10 twist. Ordered a Vortex 6.5-20x50 viper scope. Planning on using a Larue 20 moa base as I would occasionally like to shoot past 500 yards once my skill set improves to that point. My big confusion at this point is if I can use what most ring manufacturers consider a low or medium ring when mounting this scope? You guys all seem very knowledgable about this sort of thing so I figured what better place to ask. Thanks in advance!

Low should be fine. I have a like new set of Burris XTR low 30mm rings if you're interested. You could test fit them to make sure. They fit fine with my Vortex Viper pst. Pm if interested.

I haven't done it in a while but you used to be able to call Midway and tell them the rifle and scope and they would give you a list of rings that will work best.

Check out my build thread for that exact rifle. It might be of some use.

I use Nightforce scopes (30mm main tube) with a 50mm objective and I have to use medium height rings. They leave about .110" clearance between the scope and barrel which was just barely enough space to install a cap. I think low rings will be too low for you to mount the scope.

You'd be fine with a 20moa base, which he plans on using.

    Same rifle/rings/base with Millett TRS1 50mm:

Rifle is now wearing Seekins low rings with the Vortex and scope clears fine as well.

Go as low as you can and still leave at least 1/8" between the objective and the barrel. See if you can find a dealer that will test fit rings for you (some will, some won't, most will charge a scope mounting fee).

Make some calls, bound to be someone close with it in stock.

It's not like the 700 is an odd-ball...

Can anyone recommend a local shop that would typically stock a 20 MOA rail/scope base for a Remington 700?

I got my Nightforce 20moa base from Continental Arms in Timonium. I think they are a normal stock item there and it was around $116 or so. Not that it's difficult, but they even did the install for me at no charge.

Got her all together and spent a few hours at Delmarva yesterday. Gotta say, it's definitely my favorite gun to shoot right now.
