A place to discuss Cowboy Action Shooting, SASS events, the gear and the clothes.

Gun pictures appreciated. Feet should have boots on.

SWEET !!! Post some event schedules up too HP.

I'd love to attend and observe, then eventually participate. At least I 've got a head start with the Cattleman I purchased from you ...

Wifey gave me the holster and belt combo that almost matches the cap gun setup hanging beside it that I had as a kid.

Black hat substituted for boots in pic.

I know that Thurmont sportsman and conservation has a very active SASS program. I've never been to observe or shoot as schedules seem to always be at odds, but the club hosts a very large match (Mason Dixon Stampede) in the fall which draws a lot of competitors.

The kitchen does a great job, the camping is a great feature and the grounds are very nice.

TCSC is roughly 15 minutes from the 70/270/15 interchange

    Damascus Wildlife Rangers page:
    http://www.damascusiwla.org/dwr/dwr.html
with a lot of information, including the Maryland Championship in June.

    Other area SASS matches:
    http://www.damascusiwla.org/dwr/dwr.html#localarea

Anne Arundel Fish & Game sponsors a monthly match on the third Saturday that follows all SASS rules, but is not SASS-sanctioned. (This is where I shoot when I'm not nursing a bum arm or attending to other business.)

The Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) is the granddaddy of Cowboy Shooting. Their webpage is at http://www.sassnet.com/

The big debate right now is over the costume aspect. Yes, it is a part of the game. (But we're very forgiving of newbies.) Should blue jeans be allowed? This is the big question.

You too? I would love to try something like this, but with my torn biceps it would be nearly impossible to draw from a holster smoothly.

Over in Handguns, someone asked about Cowboy leather. Below is a list of some of my favorite makers.

    http://westernandwildlifewonders.com...alog/index.php

    http://www.westernstarleather.com/Holsters_c3.htm
http://www.kirkpatrickleather.com/old-west Kirkpatrick is one of the big makers.
    http://www.weishuhndrywall.com/IndianCreek_misc.html
http://russthecarver.com/ Russ is in West Grove, PA.
http://jm-leather.com/index.htm Seen examples of his work; excellent.
    http://www.mountainhomeleather.com/western1.htm
http://www.tstarleather.com/holsters.htm These guys are in Berlin, MD. I've seen two of his rigs and they are excellent.
    http://www.texasjacks.com/ For all things Cimarron.

My ace-in-the-hole is a maker in Texas. He's a wealth of knowledge and can make anything you want. You will choose color, style, # of bullet loops, stamping, etc. At a very good price.

Atlantic Guns at the Rockville location is big into cowboy shooting. Lots of hand guns and lever action. The Damascus Isaac Walton has learning seminars quite frequently because they are an active SASS participant.

I love the old school guns like the ones you guys have shown. However, I do have a request. If you would be so kind as to give a description of what you have in the pictures, it would be greatly appreciated. I can identify most modern firearms, but with cowboy action, I have virtually zero knowledge. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this boat that wants to learn, and your descriptions will help me/us learn more about these fine arms. Thanks. :D

My Pic ... is a Uberti 1873 Cattleman Hombre NM — 4-3/4" SAA in .45LC. The rig is hand-tooled custom piece.

Good point. I labeled my pictures above.

The rifle a few pics above is a Henry. Note the brass frame, lack of a handguard and lack of a loading gate. Originally in .44 Henry rimfire.
