Going through some different sites, looking to buy a 18" barrel for another build.... one company had an 18" barrel with "competition crown" and a bird cage on the end..... Now I aint no weapons expert, but I always thought the crown was the "end" of the barrel where it was recessed a little to protect the rifling.... if you have threads and/or a compensator on the end.... how do you crown it??

The crown is the leading edge of the rifling. It is the last part of the gun to touch the bullet.

There is a small flicker of fire to go with the smoke and mirrors in discussing threading and bbl crowns. Is is in regards to pinned and welded muzzle devices.

If such a bbl has dammaged or defective crown , it is very difficult to impossable to recrown.

The crown is the angle of departure from the rifling. Depending on several veriables the crown angle can be different. but the most popular 1 I have used is 11 degrees .
