Pretty, but personally, there's no way I'd spend that kind of money on a factory-made blade. Handmade damascus steel by a good bladesmith, maybe.

Spyderco makes good stuff, no doubt, but they're overpriced.

expensive, but you only live once

Don't grind the edge too thin while sharpening, and it will cut and cut

I've got an s35vn blur, just don't go below 19 degrees either side

Not sure I really need another Spyderco. But they just seem to multiply :)

I'm a fan of the Domino or Manix2 series over the native, slightly bigger, better grip, better locks, but that's just me, lots of good mid-sized ZTs hitting shelves too as smokey posted. Around $200 is the going price for a ton of great high end production folders with features and materials that the $1K+ customs didn't have 5 years ago.

The Spyderco Domino is a great alternative:

    1. Flipper
    2. Frame lock
    3. Ball bearing washers
    3. Carbon fiber and titanium handles
    4. Not cheap but cheaper than others

Cons: Steel better than S35VN or S110V? Not made in USA

I've hovered over the checkout button a couple times now for the Domino, will probably own one soon, I primarily EDC 3-3.5" blades, primarily manix2 in S110v and a custom BM 550HG, and the Domino fits right in. I've played around with them, the framelock is superb, has a steel insert so it's not sticky, and doesn't wear like bare Ti. Handle shape is great, flipper or spyderhole work, bearings are dead smooth. It's a little smoother and smaller with less texture than the Manix2 series I love, so a bit better suited to civilized EDC, less so for working on cars or the house, or cutting large bulky tough things. I know about steel, have experience with a variety in tools and knives, but am not really a steel snob, often you trade something good for something not so good, or expensive. XHP is often reffered to as a stainless CPM D2 or "super 440C", tough, polishes well and holds a decent razor edge, might not hold the "good enough" working edge as long as S___V, but for a light use EDC that doesn't matter much so no reason to doubt it would be a good steel.

A lot of Spyderocs are pricey. However there are a many that are reasonable. e.g, you can get an Endura for $65. Delica for $63, Dragonfly for $51. The plain Jane Paramilitary for $120 (a good size knife). Native light weight $78. [EDIT] Manix 2 light weight with S110V steel for $109.

True, Spyderco is not the only game in town and the blade steel on some of these knifes is over kill for most of us. But I think they are competitive.

I carry a G10 Native 5 whenever I'm not carrying my Caly 3.5. Native 5 is a fantastic knife. You won't regret it.
