Also, it takes longer than a NICS check, since MD checks something like 12 different databases, and they are not linked, so each has to be checked separately. This was discussed last year when checks were taking 100+ days.

    This ^^^

The 7 day period goes back WAY before 1991. Back to 1968, IIRC. But I KNOW it was in place in 1977 when I started purchasing handguns.

Yep, I know it dates back to at least the early seventies.

google is your friend, I am not.
I sorta think people who say "it was because of ____" are missing the point: There were/are multiple "justifications" for the waiting period. Even if they emphasized one (paperwork), they (being the gun prohibitionists) always have a backup plan. It's not as if the fact that paperwork now goes faster will make them say, hey: We should reduce the waiting period. Not. Gonna. Happen. If the paperwork goes faster, they will fall back on the backup plan (impulsive suicides), and when the courts reject those, they'll come up with some other justification. They come up with what they want to do first - waiting period - and then come up with the justification, whatever they can sell at the time.

I have a faint memory of it being a result of the "Saturday Night Special" hysteria... but it may just be coincidental??

No, well before that. The SNS hysteria got us the Handgun Roster.

And I remember the first group approved EVERY pistol made, except the NAA tiny .22 revolvers and a couple of derringers. All without a trigger guard. The libtards who thought the handgun roster would stop all handgun sales were PISSED. :)

Looks like he is following the extension to the letter laid out on 77A.

Remember that Sunday in one week That next Monday is Labor day so the double whammy of extending the pick up to 10 days.

I've seen and refused to do business with some FFL's who won't release until the checks return. The 8th pickup is legal but at the discretion of the FFL as well. Ask before you buy unless the FFL is using mail (my H&K purchase was mail in paperwork).

I only buy from people who either shall release on day 8 or have waivers at day 10. Anyone else could take weeks/months to release as MSP likes to "lose" things.

Worse, John Hechinger was a BIG supporter of gun control.

Once Home Depot opened, the only thing my buddies and I would buy from Hechingers is things for shooting (wood for target stands, reloading benches, etc).

That's why I wouldn't go there much! I did on RARE occasion go in there because I wasn't going to cost myself a boatload of dollars for a sale item or postpone a project because I couldn't find an item elsewhere....but I was still mindful of JH's anti-gun support and stayed away for most purchases.

No, well before that. The SNS hysteria got us the Handgun Roster when the politicians pulled some dirty tricks to soften support for repealing the gun ban.

And I remember the first group approved EVERY pistol made, except the NAA tiny .22 revolvers and a couple of derringers. All without a trigger guard. The libtards who thought the handgun roster would stop all handgun sales were PISSED. :)

Decided to add a small fix for ya, Pinecone.

Filled out my paperwork on a stripped lower yesterday and when I asked the dealer when to come back to pick it up, I was told come back in 10 days. I asked why 10 days, I thought the wait is only 7 days. They then told me "Sundays don't count"

This isn't a post to bash the dealer and I'm not mad about the issue. I'm still waiting on parts for that build anyway

But I picked my handgun up in exactly 8 days with no issues. Is it different when buying a lower or what?

LOL. Was this Bass Pro, bc Bass Pro told me the same thing recently. I am a lawyer, I have read the statute and I can tell you that Sunday counts like the other 6 days of the week.

No it was not bass pro. This was at a shop that is an IP on the forum and like I said, I'm not here to bash them, as I go there often and I'm not here to put down anyone's business...

I think maybe the counter person misunderstood or something because when I picked up my lower, I would clearly see a post-it note with the correct 8 day waiting period date on it, so I bet I could of went in on day 8 and picked it up

    Here's the back of the old 77-R. I don't have. New 77-R since I don't have a HQL.
As you can see in #5, MSP's instructions have the Sunday/holiday gobbledygook.

Although the statute is clear and makes no reference to Sundays or holidays. MSP took it upon themselves to interpret the statue as seen in #5

Did you not read the info from the 77R that states Sundays and Holidays do NOT count, if the 7th day falls on them?

Sunday probably doesn't count as the last day because mail doesn't come on Sundays, so if a disapproval was in the mail on Sunday it wouldn't show up until Monday.

So find an FFL that doesn't follow what it requires. :)

May not be law, but COMAR.
