I'll have to try that: duct tape, zip ties, and an Aimpoint PRO. Do you think it will work like it does in the movies?

Maybe not with duct tape and zip ties.;)

Now I'm tryin' to imagine Ahnold sayin' "the 9 millimeter longslide, with laser sighting".:lol2:

Or maybe to allow the barrel to dissipate heat?

Unless the cutouts are on a ported barrel, my limited knowledge just tells me that cutouts are to lighten a pistol up. I really don't know. I do know I wouldn't want anything thing cutout on a pistol I carry for self defense. My luck, somehow a large marble would find itself wedged in there :)

Someone told me in conversation once that the cut out causes a smokey site picture.
I'm not sure if that makes sense. You guys that have shot them, what's the deal?

    Happy to be Here
The 34 also has the cut out. My understanding is it helps the slide move faster. Lighter slide, faster moving, faster to flow up shots. At least that's the theory.

No smokey sight picture and no falling marbles, but it's still early in the day :)

    No issues with my 34.
If smoke were a problem, they wouldn't be among the most popular competition pistols.

He must have been talking about a compensated model. Now that does allow blast to exit from the ports in the top of the barrel and through the slide. But that is not really a very noticeable issue.

Just to lighten the slide. It allows glock to use the same recoil guide/spring for the 17,34,17L. I'm not sure I would use the 17l as a carry gun based on size alone. I was tempted to use mine for 3 gun but it felt like I had to pull up to my ear to unholster it. It is a great shooter though.
