What do I need to look out for?

Any suggestions... I already have a 16" carbine length barrel on the way.

What other differences exist between this and 5.56 uppers?

    Cool

Where did you order it from? For practicality sake, I have a feeling this is going to kill the 6.8.

I want one too, hopefully more manufacturered will start producing ammo for it.

No other differences, IIRC. A big selling point of .300AAC is that you use the same BCG and mags are you would with .223.

The only problem I am having, mind you I have only put together two AR's, is the barrel nut.

I get a barrel, have the gas block pinned on for a 14.5, which means that I have to buy a second barrel nut to have for the second barrel.

I think I will go by way of second complete upper, if funds are available.

I agree, all the rage is Blackout, 6.8 is out the door.

Midway. I went with the SI defense. It has good reviews (other than the gas port which is left undersized for tuning reasons).

    $177 shipped.

As far as the barrel nut, ya, you'll need another one. I plan to build a dedicated upper.

You need a stripped upper receiver?

I have a brand new Spikes Upper I'm not going to be using.

And a Vortex StrikeFire Red-Dot, I'll be adding them to the classified sections at the weekend.

I wish I hadn't missed out on cdnns cmmg special purchase really cheap uppers. No bolt but barrel and receiver mated at around 300 with a railed gas lock.

If you need a barrel nut, let me know. I have one from a project that fell through. The 300 blackout is so cool. Maybe one of these days I'll get one.

Agreed - This may very well kill the 6.8. I have a 6.8 and very much like it.

My concern also is ammo - both can be be difficult to find or afford....

This is easy to reload.... Ammo made from standard .223 with .308 bullets.

So this is where I am going on my .300 blackout basic build.

R-Guns NiB Bolt Carrier and NiB Upper
    Daniel Defense LPK
    SI Defense Barrel
    PSA Lower
    SI Defense Adjustable Gas Block
    Fully Floated handguard/barrel.

Still need to pick out a buttstock...

The Stoner barrel gets decent reviews. I seem to remember reading that it's more or less the same barrel that Wilson Combat is selling.

DSA has an upper for $320 (-bolt/ch). I have one and it seems decent so far. Supposedly they're planning to start selling the barrels separate.

At least one poster on Snipers Hide is reporting sub MOA out of it. Others report it to be accurate as well... It does need the gas hole opened up which is a fair criticism... but an annoyance that does not concern me (I'll save the $30 and put it elsewhere).

What have you heard bad about it?

I looked at a number of possibilities, the AR-Stoner was out of stock, the CMMG was only available with a pistol length gas system.

If you are comfortable opening the gas port then I guess you are GTG.

Don't want to thread jack but what about the barrel from CMMG ?

    http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/M300-Contour-300-AAC-BLACKOUT-Barrel-1709

It was out of stock at midway, didn't think to check on CMMG's site. I think the SI and CMMG are about equal to be honest. There were some early problems with the CMMG barrel with the chambering from what I read.

With regard to the gas port... ya, I have my own mill and lathe. Not an issue to open up the gas port a little.

Good input.... I think CMMG is good to go now as well. I would have considered it, but I'll save 30 bucks using my mill.
