I prefer the lower power scopes of higher quality optics on a slug gun.

You will have a wider field of view on the lower powers and it will let more light in at the end of the day.

Check out the Leupold VX-1 Shotgun scopes. No matter the brand, buy a scope designed for shotgun recoil.

I have a Simmons on mine and has done well!! Great choice for a slug gun. Simple and dead on accurate. Best of luck

I've had good luck with Bushnell scopes

I killed my first buck on my first hunt with my H&R slug gun using a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn Circle-X Reticle Riflescope, 1-4X 32mm. I later upgraded the scope to the 3-9 model because of my bad eyes. But you can't argue with success:

MY 20 gauge H&R has worn a fixed 4x and a 3-9x40. The 4x was great for hunting, but left me wanting more power at the range. When that scope crapped out (cheap simmons) I put a Redfield 3-9x40 on it. That has served its purpose well. I can leave it on 3 when hunting, but crank it up to 9x at the range. I am considering a Vortex Viper on it for this year; in either 2-7 or 3-9.

Yep, I'm glad to be the Proud new owner. I'm thinking of putting the Luepold 2X7 or 3X9
    on it.

I don't need more that the 2X7 but the bigger 40mm objectives let more light in
and me old eyes sometimes like more magnification at the range.

I have a Burris Fullfield II 40mm 3-9x on both my slug guns. The scopes are over 10 years old and I really like them. They've killed a bunch of deer.

Any Leupold you put on that slug gun of yours will be just fine.

I am actually not sure that a 3-9x40mm transmits any more light at a 7x setting than a 2-7x32 at the same setting. I dont know enough about optics to answer that question.

When I had to decide what scope to put on my slug-gun, I looked for the one with the best eye relief. I found the Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 to have a bit more eye relief (4.6in) than comparable 2-7 scopes from Leupold (4.2in) or Nikon (3.8in).
