I have a 1966 home with a combination of aluminum and copper wiring. Most of the connections were made without the goo...and when I pull no longer working outlets out of the boxes instead of nice pretty white/black/green I have tan/tan/tan where the insulation has cooked off due to heat. (One of these was in a concealed box hidden above the kitchen ceiling...just f'ing awesome.. :sad20: )

I'd like to remove the opportunity to fail and having the house burn down by replacing the old wiring. It's a 1 1/2 story cape cod so new cable can be drug down the side attics to the upstairs boxes and then (I imagine) MC pulled down to downstairs outlets. That ought to keep from ripping the walls out and disturbing the blown-in insulation. I'm not looking to add to the existing services, just keep the house from burning down.

Do I need permits for this? I'm willing to do the work (it's kinda my job) but I'd like to have a certified smart guy at least look over my plans to make sure I'm not over-fixing the problem.
