I guess taking a political stand against gun control by a company can't go unpunished.

This will be fun. The solicitation will come with specs that will require every manufacturer to fundamentally change how their gun works and make them close to unusable.

    Look forward to:
    - Glocks entry with a ambidextrous slide mounted safety.
    - a Sig with a plastic slide and black steel frame
    - M&P with the Sigmas trigger

The guns will be made in a brand-new factory with sub-assembly providers located in at least 49 of the 53 states. They'll have some parts made in Hawaii just, to keep congress out of their hair.

That CNN story gave me scabies, but hey, it's CNN.

..., when it swapped its heavy wood-and-metal M-14 for the mostly plastic M-16, and eventually switched to an even lighter and more compact rifle, the currently-issued M4.

I really fail to understand why...

I'm not the biggest fan of the M92 series, but this is stupid. What advantages are really being offered here that's worth the cost of phasing out the Beretta, buying accessories, and retraining? We're in an age when the military is downsizing and slashing the budget at every turn while trying to desperately retain some degree of readiness. Why is this a priority?

Switch from ball ammo to hst's....instantly improve effectiveness of their current sidearms with just an ammo change. Just takes someone at the top with balls.

Just purchasing for the army under the existing procurement contract would be too easy.

The word 'modular' in the solicitation suggests that they want something new and different. It'll be an exciting 2-3 years until the 'new and different' will actually work as designed.

The only funny thing will be to listen to everyone and their brother praising the M9 and being incredulous how the brass wants to move away from it.
