If you haven't already, check the IP list at the Marlin Owners Forum. There is at least one that sells a variety of both.

Taylors has a more limited (and pricier) selection on their website.

You'll need to post pics, and not the darkened shots that you recently posted in the lever porn thread ... although given it is a porn thread ... the soft room lighting is consistent in some ways.

Here are recent pics of "my" Taylor/Uberti 1873 revolver. Not quite mine, but what I received after ordering an 1873 Taylor rifle (see description on receipt vs label on the box). Uberti does do a nice job on these.

Brass frame? Yes, Uberti makes some nice reproductions, three of my other SAAs are made by Uberti.

Ill tell you the thought of getting one of these is pushing me dangerously close to giving in on an HQL.

May be machine or photo engraved but that's still small coin for an engraved arm, if you can find one. Or two.

Ugh, have a problem with my new Running Iron. The barrel is marked 44-40, the cylinder is actually .45 Colt. I'm calling Taylor's today to get this fixed. I knew this was too easy.

What's Taylors gonna do about you're Running Iron? Will they be able to fit the right cylinder quickly?

Good question. They're sending me a shipping label so I can send it back to them on their dime. I wanted a 44-40, not .45 Colt. The Running Iron isn't offered in 44-40, which is why I snapped it up. I'm hoping they have a proper cylinder there. I'll keep you posted.

Thinking about trying this cowboy shooting out, found a pair of uberti cattlemen in .357 mag for $900. Should I wait to learn more before buying pistols?

That's a pretty good deal on those, I'd snag them as that's probably the most popular combination for pistols in CAS right now. If you don't like the game, you can always sell them for what you paid for them.

I agree with JB. That's not a bad choice.

The usual advice is to go to a monthly match and check out a variety of guns; handguns and long guns.

Rugers are considered a "better" gun, more modern design and more rugged. But I think you'd have to do a lot of shooting to wear out an Uberti shooting cowboy loads. Put in a new set of Wolff (or other) springs and they're a treat.

If I were starting over, I'd go for .44-40 in caliber, but they are harder to find. As it is, I'm happy with .45LC. .357/.38SP is, I'd guess, 51% of what I see used.
