The Second Amendment Foundation and a Baltimore County, MD man today sued Maryland authorities in federal court because the man’s handgun permit renewal was turned down on the grounds that he could not demonstrate “a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger.”

    ...

SAF and Woollard are represented by attorneys Alan Gura of Virginia and Cary J. Hansel of Joseph, Greenwald & Laake of Greenbelt, MD.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You just got a client for life. If I ever need any legal issues resolved in your area of expertise, I know whom I'm going to call!

I would like to point out that this thread started on june 28th. The day that McDonald was decided.

Mr. Hansel was already looking for individuals on that day.

And Alan Gura is a lawyer in this case as well.

I wonder how long ago Mr. Gura and Mr. Hansel decided to go after Maryland.

Like other people have said numerous times.

This is a chess game and these decisions were made long ago.

    And oh, Mr. Hansel,

Now you have your client, you have your case, you're not asking for funding - but if there is anything we can do to help out, please let us know. The answer may be "nothing for now" but I'm sure all of the forum members would be willing to do whatever they can to assist in any small way possible.

    Thanks.

Remember, folks, that Freedom isn't Free. Though Mssr's Hansel and Gura isn't asking for funding, you would do well to support the organization that is funding the suit, the fine folks at SAF. If you want to help the suit directly, make your donation to SAF and put in a memo or note "Maryland carry case" or "Woollard v. Sheridan-MD Carry". The folks at SAF also brought you the McDonald case as well, as well as MANY different carry lawsuits across this country.

Pony up, folks. I'll be donating $50 to the MD carry case myself even though I live 3K miles away. You folks have a vested interest in Gura/Hansel/SAF's effort.

Gray, in other threads about that subject many others have noted their donations to either SAF or MSI or both today.

I thank you for your donation. Hope you can convince some WA friends to help support us as well.

Wasn't saying people were not contributing. Just giving people easy links to donate and tell them how to help the Maryland case directly, that is all.

Oh, and join MSI and contribute to them too.

I did walk in off the street. They don't know me. I was never LEO. I happen to have a job that fits the mold. I disagree strongly with the policies, but I believe they come more from the AG than the MSP. That's just my experience.

Most of the rank and file troopers I have personally spoken with about this strongly support the right of law-abiding citizens to carry. They are just following guidelines set forth by the politicians who set the policy.

I would even doubt that Sheridan himself opposes Shall-Issue. He is just carrying out the policy of the politicians who appointed him.

The Superintendent under Glendening sure as hell did. He is board member of the Brady satellite CeaseFire Maryland.

Sheridan is and has always been mum about his personal political views. At least he was when he was Chief of Baltimore County Police. Nobody was even sure what party affilation he was. It makes sense considering the position is "supposed" to be apolitical.

I can tell you that the overwheming majority of police are self-identified pro-2a conservatives, even in the Socialist Republik of Murderland.

Wow. The site was working just fine the other night. Owned.

If you read CeaseFire Maryland's board of directors and so forth, you will realize how much of an insider's game the whole Handgun Permit system is. Some of the Handgun Permit Review Board members came from CeaseFire Maryland. Some people on the board have never even owned a gun and most have absolutely no involvement in firearms related circles.

Glendening's Superintendent was an ardent gun grabber.

since we've already got the thread going about the actual suit, it's best to limit discussion to there.
