It is really a very broad range due to variances in quality, etc. But as a direct comparison a reasonable price for PMC Bronze .223 a year ago probably would have been in the $325 - $350 range. Now you see it regularly $600+, and that would be a "deal" by today's standards. I have seen them advertised for $900 and people are buying them.

Brass or steel? For brass, depending on load and projectile, I would pay 30-35 Cents per round for 55gr FMJ 556. Steel was cheaper.

I still have a 1000 round order of PMC Xtac backordered through Midway for $365 with shipping. It's not due in stock till July, but I can wait. i just received 5000 rounds of Winchester white box .22lr for $289, so they seem to be honoring backordered item pricing.

I bought a couple of cans of XM855 in November for $.43 a round and was pissed I paid so much for it. Wish I'd bought more.

Before I started reloading, my average expenditure on ammo hovered around mid 30 cents a round - I bought 500 to 2k rounds at a time. That was brass-cased and FMJ rounds.

Green-tips, typically spent about 39 cents a round - also bought by the thousand.

Once the prices started creeping up, I started rolling my own. Now with even components hard to find, I leave the .223 stuff alone and roll out 300BLK and 45ACP instead.

*Last time I bought premade ammo was pre-Obama.

My last 1000 round buy of PMC .223 55 GR. FMJ just before the election was $289 with free shipping. I would also get 50 round boxes of Hornady 55 GR. pointed soft points from Cabelas for $26.99 and catch them on sale frequently for $23.99 with the $5 shipping. Think those days are gone for a while.

Just normal FMJ anywhere from $289.00 on a good day up to $315.00 - $330.00. Steal "Wolf" somewhere between half that.

$300/1000 was reasonable back about 18 months ago. I think I saw X-TAC 5.56 62GR for $350/1000 middle/late last year. After the SHTF it was about $1,100/1000.

$350 for a case of LC M193 was a good deal about a year ago.
You could beat that down with coupon codes and/or free shipping deals.
