Yeah, the claim that it makes a barrel stiffer is an even dumber claim.
3) It does NOT increase or even maintain stiffness. The fluted barrel will be the same stiffness as a non-fluted barrel of the same WEIGHT.
1) It does increase heat dissipation. Simple thermodynamics, increased surface area increases heat transfer. That is why things have cooling fins.
2) It can save a good bit of weight. Depending on how thick the barrel is, and how deeply you can flute.
