I just tried it in ref. to the other thread, and overall it (handgun roster) still sucks.
But at least the search works now, sort of.
The "next page" goes by the number of total guns, not by the mfg so it is tedious and painful.
If you know the mfg it's easier to use than the old one though cause you can use search to go straight to the mfg and then expand.
The search does not seem to work for keywords other than in the mfg titles/heading though.

My experience as well. Not better, just different.

so far, it's just a different look, no real improvements I can see

MSP can try to dress the website up all they want, but until they drop some of the content and links, its little more than a road map of how the State of Maryland, and its sworn individual agents, deprive you of your fundamental rights.

Firearms Search has the "Reviewed Firearms List", which lists longarms by manufacturer, and provides status. (Banned/Not Banned) Clicking on the plus sign, to the left of "Manufacturer", will expand the list of items that have been reviewed for that manufacturer's items.

    http://mdsp.maryland.gov/Organization/Pages/SupportServicesBureau/LicensingDivision/Firearms/FirearmSearch.aspx

Handgun Roster page seems to only allow searches by manufacturer, not by model. Searching for "92" won't return any results, but searching for "Beretta" will take you to the entry for that manufacturer. You can then click on the plus sign to expand the list of items, allowing you to browse by model.

As with many site redesigns, form seems to have taken precedence over function.

A mixed bag to me. The handgun roster is worse because you can't go directly to an alphabetical page to find your manufacturer-at least not that I can see.

Some bad links and other minor stuff.

    What do you think?

    http://mdsp.maryland.gov/Pages/default.aspx

What would happen if someone sold/purchased a firearm and claimed to not be able to find the firearm on the banned list(hypothetical)? Shouldn't the site be easy for EVERYONE?

And the commercial search engines are all showing all the old inactive links. Crawlers have not yet gotten into the site to make new results show on Google or Duckduckgo

Like Mule says, the search by manufacturer does work, but MD doesn't always have the manufacturer spelled exactly as you would expect. Gotta have the right spaces and dots

wonder if they bother to install a robots.txt file on the server to make crawlers find it more quickly.

probably not. What do you expect from an organization that still use fax machines to transmit paperwork?

IMHO , This is done to create confusion and make the site hard to navigate . In hopes of pissing off the people that use it .

Anyone here could develop ideas and a concept for a better site page .

Thanks - this was helpful. Till I used it and discovered that my dreams of an H&K Avtomat Kalashnikov (AK) are dashed by the MSP - It's banned!!!! Damn it, no HK AK for me :sad20: Well, at least there's hope for an HK Moisin Nagant. :innocent0

    amen.

Even 10 minutes worth of work would probably make this oh so much better.
This seems like a Beta version that only the guy that wrote it tested it, and of course said "it is good".

(another strong possibility is the software requirements were poorly written, and this conforms exactly to the requirement, but not the desired functionality)

Aside from not being able to go directly to a particular "page", another DR is the entries that have a "*** see note on last page" -
guess what, after scrolling through 23 pages (one at a time!), there IS no last page with notes.
And there is a "Start" quick link for the list but no "End" or "Last" link.
    aaarg.

    MANUFACTURER: ESSEX
1911A1 Receiver ** (See note on last page)
Commander Rec. ** (See note on last page)

Exactly! That's the underlying philosophy of most LE Management in this state, IMO.

MY DOG could develop ideas and a concept for a better site page.
