I've been lobbying for secession of Delmarva for a while, We here on the eastern shore have nothing in common with the wack jobs in Annapolis.

And no offense to those on the western shore but if you've ever visited here you would understand, we don't even refer to ourselves as living in MD, we live on the "eastern shore" or "Delmarva"

In all honesty, I could probably carry a loaded handgun and be able to talk my way out of getting in any trouble if I got caught

All of this sounds great to me, but there are places here on the Eastern Shore that have become pretty liberal. (Salisbury for one) Also people are not willing to change the status quoe, they feel too confrontable. I believe 100% with everything expressed here, and I will also be willing to defend our rights given to us from the greatest document ever conceived by Man. (except the Bible) The U.S. Constitution.
When I joined the Army and latter as a police officer, I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all foreign and domestic enemies. I am not advacting some type of force, just a serious attempt to rediscover our rights given to us through the Constition. Will our representives take this serious? Perhaps secession for the creation of new States isn't all that "crazy". I believe they don't want to "offend" anyone and become unpopular with the beloved media. There are exceptions, but too few.

Then move quickly, before they become "Colorado"
Remember when that was free state? Before the Californication?

Ya know, only two little bridges really seperate good Maryland from bad Maryland. The western shore folks in Annapolis would be far too lazy to go all the way around :)

Even with salisbury being what it is, the eastern shore is still one of the friendliest places I go. I always feel my blood pressure drop and I actually get a smile on my face when I cross the bridge. I'd live in the new state of Delmarva in a heartbeat.

"I'm not too keen on merging Eastern Shore Md with Joe-bite-me-land. I would say leave Delaware by itself, and, essentially, split Maryland in thirds: Western Maryland, Eastern Maryland, and Maryland SSR (Soviet Socialist Republik). "

    I'm liking this plan.

I was thinking about this, and perhaps a better idea would to be to combine forces and have Western Md and the eastern Shore as one state linked by that thin area starting with Carrol County, upper Baltimore (rural) county, etc...

...I seriously think that we should peruse this in some form after last nights nonsense, and if we're going to join the Eastern Shore Md with another state, for God's sake, let it be Virginia and NOT DELAWARE...

....OK I wouldn't mind taking the southern rural parts of Delaware to free those people too....

.....We really need to peruse this!!!!

After today's performance and the kabuki dance that is sure to take place over the next five days, this needs to happen. The state of the state has become intolerable to anyone with common sense and morals.
That being said, I have no idea how to start a website. I would like to have some form of clearing house where ideas on the matter can be shared and perhaps a way to guage how many of the affected areas are interested. If we show up en masse to the commissioner's officers in Hagerstown, Cumberland, Frederick, Westminster, and Oakland, perhaps we can actually make an impact and make something happen. If nothing else, we can make a point.
If we can all find a way to put demo charges on 270 and 70 as well as the bay bridge, perhaps that would be even better (kidding of course).

A new state requires congressional approval for admittance to the union. I am not totally sure but moving into an existing state may not. I am dead serious, we are not Marylanders, we are trapped. MONTANI SEMPER LIBER!

State house can be the ole truck stop with the eatery. I'm game.
Legislature can meet in "The Skate-r-bowl" Yes it was a recreation place for just what the name implies.:D

Seriously though... I urge everyone to consider how some things would be handled in such a transfer of power / responsibility.

State employment. There are five or six state prisons in W.MD. They employ A LOT of people. There are many other state jobs in W.MD. which are some of the most sought after jobs here. Thousands of W.MD. residents have invested decades in such jobs. How will their careers & pensions be handled?
We could continue to allow the prisons and other facilities necessary to down-state Maryland within our territory. Its not unheard of. It will have to be decided though and SHOULD BE in any proposal from the outset.

How about the many state owned properties? I think close to 1/2 of Garrett is state owned isn't it? Thousands of acres of forest, park and WMA lands in the three western most counties. SHA properties, as well as the highways themselves! Numerous offices for everything from the courts to health care facilities...

There is billions of dollars worth of facilities, equipment and jobs to be considered. IT MUST BE included in any serious proposal. Maybe it'll be easier to deal with than I anticipate but we cannot merely say we're leaving without such considerations.

I do think a serious plan should be considered. I personally like the idea of preserving the "reasonable strip" along the M-D line to make W.MD. and the shore contiguous, while excluding the (sorry guys:innocent0) troublesome parts of the state. The other option being ceding W.MD to WV and the shore to VA. DE is just too disconnected from traditional ideals to be included in this deal.:sad20:

BTW - It should be noted that ALL FIVE members of the BOCC in WashCo are what would be best be described in current lingo as RINO's. They are highly susceptible though to public opinion. A quite proposal made on paper with cautious interpretation of response (if any) followed by an aggressive PUBLIC announcement of intentions prior to an official in person (commissioner's meeting) proposal would be a good strategy to get them warmed up to such a (perceived) radical idea.
