I submitted my Form 1 via the eforms page two weeks ago. The rifle was bought 4 years ago and its worn a 14.5" M4gery upper since three years ago. Now that i'll be chopping it down (when legal to do so) am I required to get a heavy barrel for it? Or can I keep the Gov't contoured barrel thats on it?

No. SBRs are not considered copies of the named assault long guns, and you can therefore mount any profile barrel on your new SBR. The MSP still feels you would be subject to the copycat criteria, though.

14.5" barrel is a SBR. The limit is 16"s. So if you have been running a 14.5" its illegal unless already registered.

Barrel profile should not matter on a SBR.

Unless you are cutting and threading it yourself, it might be cheaper and easier to buy a new barrel. A 10.5" hbar is very manageable. Just a thought.

Calm down, gents. I'm sure he means he has a 14.5" legally pinned to 16".

New barrel is probably a good plan, I agree. If I were doing it again, I'd go pencil profile, not like you're mounting a GL or prying open boxes with it. :)

I have a heavy profile barrel on my sbr and hate it. A lighter barrel is going to be on it soon

    Thanks for the tip!
