My lovely daughter broke the tip off of my Delica, about 1/4" :sad20: Can I grind a new tip so it doesn't look goofy, or can I send it back to Spyderco to have them fix it? I'm going to assume Spyderco will charge for this.

How much did you lose? I've ground points on junk knives with as much success as can be attributed to a junk knife. I don't see why you couldn't on a Spyderco, just go slow and keep the heat down. I don't know the ins and outs of modern alloys, but I'd assume that, like carbon steel, if it turns colors the temper is gone.

You could buy a new one and let her keep the broken one...maybe with a life lesson and story for the grandkids. Amazon has a few varieties for $56 and free shipping. The last Delica I bought came from the knife guy at all the gun shows (can't think of his name...usually sports what I'd respectfully call a Civil War moustache and goatee, has display cases, not the chinese junk). I think I paid about $35 because it was the previous generation...although that was a few years ago...

You can reshape the tip, just don't let it get hot. keep dunking the blade in water while grinding. If you let it get hot you will loose the temper.
