Won't be attending, but their route had them pass my house several years ago. "rolling thunder" is an understatement. Bought my first new Harley in 1975.

Thinking about. We haven't ridden that run in years. Last time we went, we got to the Pentagon parking around 10:30, 11:00ish. The ride started at noon, we cranked up and started moving around 3:30. It's massive! Bring chairs and lots to drink!

I have to admit, coming off that bridge and hitting 80mph on Constitution Ave with DC Cops holding back the crowd is a top 10 life time rush.

A friend and I were just talking about this yesterday. I've never been but it looks fun. I might be up for a group ride to DC.

Haven't been in 20+ years but would advise anyone wanting to ride to go to your local HD dealer and ride from there. Washington HD to the Pentagon with a police escort and traffic stopped

Pardon my ignorance, but is there any connection to this event, it's title, etc. with these lyrics from a popular 1980's song:

    I'm rolling thunder pouring rain
I'm coming on like a hurricane
My lightning's flashing across the sky

Nice thought, but I kind of doubt that the Rolling Thunder event has anything to do with Hells Bells.

A good weekend to go somewhere else. Rolling thunder is a huge pain in the ass for everyone else in the area.

It's also an almighty pain for the "weekend warriors" who planned on actually riding IN the event the same day they arrive in the parking lot. Especially if it's hot.

IMO, and sadly, it's become just a REALLY BIG party before, during, and after the parade. The deeper meaning is lost once the first 20 or 30 riders roll out. Oh, and don't forget the Official Rolling Thunder NN tee shirts, pins, buttons and swag for sale at any motor sports dealer in the area. Proceeds go to... ???

It started out many years ago as a small group who wanted to pay tribute to our POWs and MIAs. After a couple of years the OSD DPMO got wind of it and offered the Penatgon's South Parking to the group to stage in, and MPD also got on board with traffic management downtown. For the last few years most riders don't usually, and come for the parties rather than the event itself. :sad20:

I ride motorcycles but have never participated in this due to this same view. Does it really do ANY good to someone other than the riders? At least participating in the silly [insert your favorite charity] runs/walks there is actual money raised and (a fraction) donated to a cause.

Yes, but you'll want to meet up with the group on "P" st. before heading down.:innocent0

P.S. Don't forget your chaps. I hear they are big with that crowd.:evilgrin3

LOL. Yeah, my Suzuki Intruder 800 cruiser would probably be looked at the same with some of that crowd.

Bikers can be prejudiced too. :lol2:
