You mean if this wasn't Maryland it would be good for more?

You might wanna explain that a little better for us dummies. ;)

Because the M1A is on the ban list and I'd like to buy one before 1 October, I wanted to know what kind of value I'd get from the rifle. Since the rifle serial is on the receiver, I can get plenty of use. If the serial were on the barrel or other shorter-lived piece, the value would've been significantly reduced.

Regardless, I bought my rifle and question was answered.

I have serious doubts you would shoot that M1A barrel out anyway. At per-hysteria prices that would have been $6000-12000 in ammo.

At current prices you could buy a new Hyundai.

If you purchased the reciever before Oct. 1st could you then send the rifle to a gunsmith to have the complete rifle built? As I understand it building it yourself wouldn't be an issue but I'm not sure its something I could take on myself.

I've shot out a number of barrels back when Lake City match was $10 per box. With a barrel life of 5,000 rds, that was $2500 in ammo. Handloading was even less.
