Hmm, you guys are giving me second thoughts about AACo - I test on the 28th.

If you want to be the real police you could always apply for D.C., Chigago, Baltimore, and Philly but I'd understand if there was sand in your lady parts :lol2:

Openings for Entry Level Police Officers
Applicants for entry level police officer can get an application on the City’s website at http://www.annapolis.gov/Government/Departments/HumRes/JobOpportunities.aspx. Applications are sent to the City’s Human Resources Department. Any questions please contact Cpl. Mark Cochran at 410-268-9000.

    Question!
So I was just reading the job posting, and under Additional Requirements it says this:
"Possession of certificate of satisfactory completion from the Maryland Police Training Commission. Radar Certification.
    Intoximeter Certification. Firearms Certification."

Does this mean they only want laterals or people already trained?

If I felt like doing a 64 mile drive (each way) again, Balt. would be on the list.

D.C. wants College or Military (which I don't have).

Chicago and Philly - ehh, I like shooting, don't know how I feel about being shot at though. :D

Haha. That is the recruiting moto for the high crime areas. That's what got me.

It's hard to get hired anywhere the competition is stiff. Put out as many apps as you can and see where you fall. You'll be shocked to see how many people are trying out for the same job as you. I mean it you'll be shocked. Don't let any rejections deter you and try to score high on any PT tests and written tests. If you suck at running you better get working on that. Also it may take you years or months, who knows.

AA County has a great pension, decent benefits, and mediocre pay. The one great thing about AA County are the citizens, about 90% of whom are still your friends if you're in blue. The down side is all the problems they will need to work through in the coming years thanks to the election of Grandpa Superfreak to County Executive and his escapades. Right now the department is horribly short-staffed, mainly as a result of years of being a "last resort" county department for qualified applicants thanks to the pay scale. And when I say horribly short staffed I'm not even including the new demands on manpower from the Almighty Casino. Approximately 650 sworn members (total, all ranks, all jobs) is not much for 520,000 citizens. Morale is also the worst it's been in decades there. People are just miserable and losing hope. They've been dicked over since 1990 by one county executive after another, with the possible exception of Janet Owens, and things are just not going well any more.

Not to knit-pick but I'd say that percentage is more like 60% and declining. And Janet Owens fired an entire class right after academy graduation.

If i had a choice and could do it all again....I would apply for a Sheriff's Office in SW Florida (B/n Tampa and Naples). I had an application for Broward SO and a small PD outside Ft Lauderdale but we stayed in MD.

Problem with that is that Florida LE Agencies are hurting for money and salaries will be depressed for a long time to come. Plus, you need to look at the retirement, as Foridal LE do not take their health care with them when they retire. With today's health care concerns, that would be a big issue for me. Additionally, if you make rank in a Floorida SD, you could be out of a job when a new Sheriff is elected. Some stuff to think about. Of the Florida PDs I would consider based on having worked with most of them, I would look at Miami PD and Tampa PD with Tampa being my first choice.

I thought about that back in the 90's....I'm getting closer now to retiring I'm not going anywhere:D

FL has a state retirement....kinda like LEOPS where they can go from agency to agency without losing thier retirement.

Really if make rank in any agency (Command Staff) its an appointed position and your employment is "at will" of the chief or the sheriff.

If you want to run and gun, the US Border Patrol is always hiring.

you mean run from gun? thought border patrol was unarmed and SOP was the run and hide.

They call in the Texas Rangers with their gun boats:thumbsup:

Reading the posting for St Mary's Co Sheriff, I am interested, but I know nothing about the county. I'm 2 hours away, so I don't exactly get down there much. Can any one tell me how it is down there?

Thought you weren't driving? 64 miles to BCo?

Again, apply everywhere. Choose best. I moved from out of state. A good job is worth it.

That wasn't me. That was Brad who didn't want to drive. I have no problem driving. I was planning on applying to OCPD and that's 3hrs each way.

I just know literally nothing about St. Marys. I think I'll send in an app though.
