Future investment so that in the event an enemy becomes a serious candidate you can discredit them in front of their supporters?

So O'Malley is a proponent of gun control, he sure didn't mind accepting money from us.

However, O’Malley’s press secretary Haley Morris said, “There is only one presidential candidate whom the NRA fears and that’s Governor O’Malley.”

Not true, the NRA fears the Republican candidate because that's the only one that f'up this free lunch.

Whoa!! Don't wet your pants yet.

It went to the association -- the Democrat Governors Association. Not O'Mao.
Yes, he was its chairman and then finance person, but he was acting on behalf of the association comprised of all Democrat governors throughout the country, of which there are a number, not all of whom are rabidly anti-2A. Moreover, by taking the money O'Mao tacitly acknowledged that not all Democrat governors agree with him. Otherwise they would have pushed to refuse it, right? (Maybe not. Why not take free money from your nemesis?)

However, presumably there are some Democrat governors in the U.S. who the NRA either supports, thinks are persuadable, or wants to soften opposition from.

    Can't be real.

I know the NRA really stretches to support moderate Democrats and push against anti-gun conservatives; in their effort to de-politize the issue and encourage politicians to not make this a partisan issue. But if this is true, it's ridiculous. On the other hand, until O'Malley forced FSA2013 on us, he stayed fairly quiet on the issue.

They didn't. The donation was to the DGA, not O'Malley.
Still gotta wonder why...I get it, some Dem govs are ok but most are not...why not give directly to the ones that support tne 2nd? Otherwise the money goes into their general fund where their controlling interests spend it where they like...like getting more "mainstream"
    Governors elected...you know, like MOM...

If it was before Sandy Hook, it doesn't shock me. Gun rights pre-Sandy Hook were going on a rocket ride to the moon.
