As good as Gunboards is for all things C&R the Canadian milsurps.com site has a fantastic Enfield section w. Peter Laidler's articles on damned near everything you could do to an Enfield (Peter was the senior armourer for the British Army). A real tresure trove of information.

Enfield has a crown with three hash marks under that and then a 7E under that. All right next to the bolt on the absolute end of the reciever. Nothing on the side.

    serial numbers: N31507
M/47C and 1944 on the band and the barrel.

M/47C is the code for BSA Shirley. 1944 would be the production date.

The crown over the 7 E would most likely be a inspection mark. Usually E would stand for Enfield, B for BSA and L for London Small Arms (LSA). Could have been a refurb with the Enfield mark but not enough information; just a guess. The Brits liked to mark any part big enough to stamp.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long, I've been swamped at work. Here are the pics as promised. One other thing I stumbled across which I never really noticed before was different numbers on the back of the bolt handle and the bottom of the handle. It's all one piece but with different numbers and I was a little confused. Thanks again for the help.

Yea, I'm really happy with, no range time yet but I'll have to fix that pretty soon. Can anybody tell it's origin based on the markings. Again, I did some research on my own and some things I'm finding tell me it's Australian, but other things tell me it's British. I'm far from a master on lee enfields and I can already tell from other posts a lot of people here know their stuff. Thanks fellas.

It definitely originated in Britain. Based on the photos you posted there's nothing about it that screams Australian. Like Rickhead said based on the big Enfield mark on a BSA gun it could be a post-war refurb. My guess is the guy that sold it to you just assumed it was Australian because the Aussies manufactured those rifles throughout the war and you have a ww2 dated rifle.
