I picked up a 18.5" barrel and a 2 round mag extension. Both brand new and both are Remington brand. I attempted to put them on my 870 express tonight and ran into an issue. The barrel has the ring for the mag tube already on it preventing me from being able to use the barrel clamp. I googled the 18.5" barrel and couldn't find any pics with the mag tube ring built into it. The other odd thing is the tube coupler has no threads left after it's screwed down tight to the mag tube leaving nothing for the extension to grab onto. And if I do it half and half threads are easily visible on both the mag and extension.

Ideas as to what my next step should be are welcome.

That barrel looks wrong. The barrel ring should slide over the mag tube when the end screw plug is removed and then you screw on the extension, but the barrel ring looks like it is way too far forward. Are you sure you have the right barrel? Is one a magnum and the other 2 3/4? Look at the receiver and the barrel and make sure they are both for the same size shells.

    They're the same. 2 3/4" and 3".

I've spent hours looking through the web and can't find the same barrel.

I just went through the same process (minus the buying the wrong part).

I bought a Remington 870 express with the 28 inch barrel and modified choke. It is great shooting trap, but I wanted to be able to use it for home defense, so I bought the 18 inch fixed cylinder from bobs for $125 shipped.

With the wood, I thought it looks funny with the 2 shot extension tube.

My +2 extension is off eBay for $40,

Where's the cheapest place to get the 18.5" barrel from? Remington lists it at $160ish.
