I really like CZ pistols for the ergonomics.

But the Polish 9mm MAG98 is an interesting item; 15 round double-stack mag, DA/SA, alloy frame, and seemingly only a couple thousand made. Still available for under $400; IMO this is a sleeper.

You bet. The Mag 98 is a great design. I've got a good 2000 rounds through mine and not so much as a hiccup.

Just an FYI, I shot my first IDPA qualifier with a CZ-75B. I hadn't fired it in a few months, earned SSP Marksman with it. I missed Sharpshooter by 1 point. If I had practiced with it prior I would have done considerably better.

I hadn't thought of the Radom MAG98 until this evening and now I see that it has been mentioned a few times. I agree that it is a sleeper. 100% reliable and, even though the trigger isn't as good as the CZ, it's still a pistol I'd trust my life to. The problem is that they are going to be impossible to find in just a very short time because so few were made to begin with:

Makarovs are the AK's of the pistol world but they are so well known that I hadn't even given them a thought as a "secret". My 1962 DDR is much more refined than my 1974 Soviet made by Ishevsk:

Another excellent pistol that is not well known is the HK P9. Expensive, but....well it's an old school HK. The trigger is match quality right out of the box:

My all time favorite pistol though is the P7. Another HK and by no means a secret, it's by far the absolute best pistol I've ever shot. I don't even mind that it's an 8 round magazine:

The only SIG I own is a 1953ish P210 that is obsolete beyond words but it makes one hell of a range pistol. They are so old that some might consider them a secret because many probably don't even know what they are:

Did you know they still make those things? Ain't cheap either. They sell them as match guns now.

Oh and your pic reminded me of another one. The P-08 Luger. Yes, I know, how can the Luger be a secret you ask. I mean, everyone knows about Lugers right? They're only one of the most infamous and mythical handguns ever made. But while everyone knows the stories, few have held one and less have fired one. Often you here them being knocked by the inexperienced as being too complicated or finicky or delicate, and that they should be only safe queens and wall hangers.

However, in terms of it's performance as a firearm; as a shooter; I'd argue it is a secret of sorts. I can say that a firing a 9mm Luger is pure shooting bliss. They feel great in the hand, they point well, the recoil is smooth and natural, and they are in my experience extremely accurate for a service pistol. The only possible slight towards them would be the ever so basic sights, but they are no worse than any other pistol of the era. So yes, I'd say the Luger as a shooter is a secret pleasure worth the steep price of admission.

(and of course I'll include some gratuitous Luger porn :D )

Well, it's no good talking about this stuff unless you show an example! Nice luger BTW!
The new 210's are German made and, unfortunately, not to the same level of Quality as the originals. They are still nice pistols though. Judging by the serial number font, your P08 looks to be WWII era?

Yessir it is WWII. 1940 to be exact. It's a mismatch though. Someone replaced the toggle with a byf code one. The barrel and frame are matching original though. Waffenamts are intact as well. No import marks. The bore is still bright and she's a damn good shooter. Always a good conversation starter at the range too. People are generally surprised to see one in person.

All of my lugers are East German reworks. Inexpensive but trouble free. I do have to say that, in all my years of shooting, my experience has been that no pistol gets people more excited at a range than a luger. Even non-shooters recognize them. One time many moons ago up at the range near New Germany, this dude asked if he could simply handle one of mine as he had never seen one in person. I said sure and handed him a magazine as well. You would have thought that he was having a religious experience. I never forgot that and, to this day, I freely offer to let people shoot my weird firearms when they ask about them. To me, that's what this hobby is all about, creating good memories. Mismatched or not, your P08 is pretty Schweet!!

Forgot about my HK P7s. Unbelievable accuracy. Don't mind the 8 rd mag either. Have the P7M8 and the standard P7. Getting harder to find.

I'll put on my flame suit for this, but, my vote is for the Glock 23C, for the same reasons as the vid below.

You can use this same pistol lower frame to shoot:
    - 40 S&W - in stock form - typical 40 muzzle flip dissipated by ported barrel
    - 357 Sig - with a 357 Sig conversion barrel, using same magazines
    - 9MM - I use a complete Glock 19 slide and hi-cap Glock 17 magazines (but you can also use a 9mm conversion barrel in stock slide)
    - 22LR - with a 22 conversion slide kit.

1 pistol = 4 calibers. Also magazines come in various sizes for multiple options.

Very economical IMO. Want to shoot 45? Well I have a sexy ported 1911 for that. :)

I too am going to chime in with CZ-USA.

But I am also going to throw out a S&W revolver in .45acp.
    I have a Smith 25-2 and a buddy of mine has a Smith 625.
Great trigger, accurate, and the fact that you have a revolver in .45 acp is just cool.

Everyone needs at least one. :)

A buddy of mine bought a near pristine model of 1955 Smith (pre-25) and it shoots and handles wonderfully. If he ever sells it for anywhere near a reasonable price, it will be mine!

Yup. Same here. If someone asks, and I have the ammo, I'll let them put a few rounds through it. And thanks again! Your collection is quite impressive as well. I want a P7! haha
