I started cowboy action shooting this month, and my pistol caliber is 32-20. I have not purchased a box of 32-20 since 1990. I still have the first box, with price tag ($18.95 for 50). I stopped at a local gun shop today to see if I could find some 44-40, which the soon-to-be mine rifle is chambered in. I saw two boxen of 32-20 by Winchester. 100gr lead, $51.50 for 50. WTH? That's over $1 a shot. And a box of 50 of .45 Colt at Dick's (Ultramax lead 255gr) is $50! I checked on Midway's site, a box of 50 rounds of 32-20 starts at $35.99 and goes up. I'm not even bothering with looking at 44-40 loaded ammo now. I don't see how people shoot CAS if they don't reload.

Yup thats the way it is and why getting a .45LC or .357 CAS gun makes sense.

If you really want to fume, go looking for something like .455 Eley/Webley.

I have 135 rounds of 32-20 I loaded up from my original, 25 year old Remington brass. I'd like 200-300 more but Starline only has seasonal runs of 32-20 brass and apparently so does Remington and Winchester. At lease Midway has some 44-40 brass (for now) but I can't buy any until next month.

Shop wisely. Then, think about reloading.

I shot CAS for a year before I started reloading. Montlhy match ammo costs went from $45 to $15.
