You know $200 use to be what a few weeks or months salary in 1934. Now its a few hours or days work. My bet is that we are about to see more inflation in the future as we pay off SS with cheaper and cheaper money. That $200 will be like an hours work eventually. Then we can have all the hand grenades for just the trouble of some paperwork... and what probably a 3 year wait at that point!

Average salary in 1932 - 34 was $1368. So that $200 tax stamp was 7 weeks salary.

And probably several times the price of a machine gun.

Here is the average price of firearms:

    Weapons & Ammo
    Pistol .22 $5
    Pistol, Beretta palm-sized $30
    Pistol, Colt .45 $25
    Revolver, .38 $20
    Revolver, .357 $22
    Rifle, .22 $5
    Rifle, Hunter $30
    Rifle, Elephant Gun $70
    Shotgun, Pump 12g $60
    Scope $60
    TNT, 1 stick $5
    Whip, Bullwhip $2
    Ammo, .22 caliber $.02
    Ammo, handgun caliber $.03
    Ammo, rifle $.07
    Ammo, shotgun $.05

Funny, people are complaining about the price of .22LR. In 1934, a hour wage bought about 32 rounds of .22. Right now, MD minimum wage buys 72 rounds AT 10 CENTS PER ROUND.
