My understanding is that the ammo rule is to avoid people bringing ammo that would quickly destroy their backstop, and they also wanted to avoid accidents. I can actually see why this would be important for a busy public range where they don't have a lot of control of your experience or mental capacity.

    It is a nice range.

The question is how about the prices are they using that as an excuse and selling the ammo at crazy high prices or is actually a competitive price, being a dealer and enforcing to buy their ammo I guess they should be able to give you a walmart like or +$1 a box???

Competitive price with Walmart a national chain ?
A family run single store will never have the buying power of a Walmart.
When I worked for Walmart we sold things like Clorox bleech below cost
to get people in the store so we could sell them other things as well.

If you do not make enough profit on your sales you will not be in business
and Fred's has been around at the same location for years and had the guts
in this economy to build a range.

Having to buy ammo from them is a rule that I have to follow if I
wish to use the range. And I do every chance I get.

My hand loads would be cheaper for me but they are not allowed
to be used at the range but when I have been there alot of people
were as happy as I was to have a nice and safe place to shoot.

Not only do you have to buy their ammo, but you have to buy it THAT DAY. So if you buy a few boxes at once, and don't use them all at once, you cannot use ammo that you bought in their store a week ago.

That's overboard and a dealbreaker for me.

Do they still have ammo logs?

No that is not correct if you do not use the ammo you buy they
have anti tamper tape that they will seal your box with and as long
as the seal is not broken you can bring it back and use it.

If you are buying ammo that you wish to use on the range on
another day ask them to tape your boxes for you I have seen
it done for others on more then one visit to the range.

And no they do not have an ammo log in use.

Were you asked to show ID when you bought the ammo?
