I traded up my AR for a new SGL-20 that was manufactured in 2008 at the Izhmash Factory in Russia, well at least the following parts of it were: receiver, barrel, trunnion block, bolt, bolt carrier, and the gas piston.

This is my first AK. I absolutely love her.

The target from my first shoot is attached (50yds).

I have two polymer Bulgarian magazines and two steel Polish magazines - both seem to fit nicely and work fine.

Congrats. One of my fave rifles. Very simple, easy to maintain and I've never had any failures in 1000s of rounds.

    Nice looking rifle.

Since I know nothing about AK's..... Could you replace all the furniture with wood to make it look more authentic?

I'm not tracking. Authentic? They don't use wood anymore. Do you replace your handguards with the triangle ones to make it look more authentic?

Sorry to upset your sensibilities. Is period correct or "old" better? :sad20:
I don't like wood on an AR platform, or plastic on an AK platform.

    Back in MD sadly
Nice rifle. I once had the 21-61 model but traded up to the 21-94 with the polymer folding stock :party29:

    Nice looking rifle.

Since I know nothing about AK's..... Could you replace all the furniture with wood to make it look more authentic?

The Saigas are based on the post-Cold War AK-100 series that use all polymer stocks. The Soviets stopped issuing rifles with wood in 1985 with the AK-74. Only AK-47's, AKM's, and AK-74's up until 1985 had wood.

That being said you could if you wanted to since the rifle is milspec for accessories like the furniture to swap it as one pleases. Many owners of these rifles do switch to wood.

However apart from looks the polymer furniture is superior in every way to wood. Polymer furniture is lighter, more heat resistant w/ the heat shield, can withstand the elements better, won't scratch, crack, or ding like wood will, and cheaper to manufacture. Most will cry that polymer can melt well wood can burn which is equally as bad so what is your point? Both types of furniture will give way if abused.

    20 has Commie (shorter) stock
    21 has Nato (longer) stock

The difference is very slight, maybe an inch, I think. They look identical in every other way, hard to tell apart really.

I think there is a second accessory lug to mount a grenade launcher as well.
