    Yes, legal.

To the untrained eye, it does bear a vague resemblance to an AK, but it is totally different. No parts interchange. Works differently. Much lighter.

Is a horse "styled to look like" a cow? Different beasts.

Maybe its just me, but I feel like there could be some kind of assanine interpretation of it being a "copycat".

Does anyone think that by adding the AK name to this new AK14 rifle that it will never see its place in a Maryland gunshop? Seems like an interesting build, but if it isn't really an AK for all practical purposes wouldn't naming it an AK be detrimental to the idea of selling this in all 50 states? Maybe this is a shot across the bow to all states that list all AK in the regulated or banned lists?

We already know it is a semi auto, centerfire rifle.

Is it shorter than 29"? No -Not a copycat.

Does it have two of the following (folding stock, flash suppressor, or grenade launcher)? No - Not a copycat

Does it have a fixed magazine with a capacity of more then 10 rounds? No - Not a copycat.

What defines a Kalshnikov? Must be made of riveted iron and bathed in the blood of enemies of the Motherland!

Not a single part of an AKM/74 will fit on a VZ.58. They are completely different rifles in almost every way, aside from cosmetic similarities. If there was any doubt about legality, see post #6.

The general rule for copycats and "any other format" is method of operation and specifically, whether the rifles share parts.

Their description is pretty convincing that it is an AK so even if they called it a Parabellem 870 it would still be an AK.

"The Parabellum AK-14 ..... Starting with superior quality AK’s, with a hammer-forged barrel and stamped receiver, we build-up the SOPMOD AK with our own AK accessories."

    FTFY

Copycat is a specific term in the law, and has nothing to do with looking alike, functioning alike, or interchangeable parts.
