Man I'm glad we are leaving Deep Creek Lake in the morning. Although I will be driving home through part of it.

Oh, so when the going gets rough, Mdeng gets going? :lol2:

It was terrific to finally meet you today. Travel safe in the mess that's coming our way!

Its all your fault - you stated everytime you visit Garrett Co, it snows. You didnt have an extended stay this time did you?

Well, Ya. I wanted to meet the Hooligans at the range today so we stayed an extra day. Normally we leave the day after a class.

    Sorry:o

At work on Friday I overheard one of our 'leaders' say something about he planned to fill his tank and go grocery shopping.

I stopped by BassPro today their flashlight section was mostly bare.

About 10 minutes ago I got a text from my work saying that 'liberal vacation' was authorized, meaning that if anyone is affected or spooked by the weather they can not show up and be just charged for leave.

How can anyone live in Maryland or really anywhere in the US over the last few years and not be thinking about some basic preparedness?

    Drive carefully....

I have convinced the wife that we need to leave earlier. Our plans were to leave around noon(checkout time). Instead we may get going around 8AM.

Guess I won't be able to stop by the gun shops on the way. It's about a 4 hour drive in good weather. The tank is full we have supplies if we need to stop and hunker down on the way.

Between friends and family we are normally only a short drive from shelter.

Given our winter forecast, I'm actually looking at snow brooms right now. That storm a couple of years ago scared the crap out of me with all of the snow piled on the roof.

That is exactly why when I built a log home on top of Savage Mt that I went with a 10/12 pitch metal roof. It slides right off.

The nearby TV stations are saying nothing about the snow, in fact some are just showing all rain. But the NWS is still showing a Blizzard Warning, and seems to have up'd the snow accumulations to 8-14inches at the time of this post. Im sure that will change again.

    Here is the latest report:

My daughter and her family are in Elkins, WV. She told me just a few minutes ago they are planning for a big hit.

We dodged the proverbial bullet here in NC. We got a little rain and some wind. No major flooding in my area. I understand the OBX took a bit of a hit.

Hang in there, folks. Be careful. Don't do anything dumb. There isn't any reason you need to go out other than a dire emergency. When it comes down to it, I think there is not one person here that would disagree that "bored with no power" is a better scenario than "seriously hurt or dead."

Wondering how you made out Joe. Appreciated your reports during the last hurricane. Wind and rain are starting to really pick up here in Baltimore.

We did very well this time around. Nothing more than a blustery day or two. Carolyn and I actually went out to the movies yesterday afternoon. The storm surge was light and there is very little damage where we are. The OBX, of course, took the usual lashing.

The NWS can't make up their minds. I've seen recent forecasts of 9 to 13" overnight plus another 4 to 11" tomorrow. Since the temp is around freezing now it'll be a very interesting 24 hours out here.
