I checked out the folding stock conversion for the AR today and I really liked it. Here are some background components relating to my question that I believe to be important:

Gun began life as post 10/1 Colt HBAR
    Became SBR on Form 1
    Greater than 29" OAL
    Factory muzzle device

Could I attach the folder kit and be in compliance with MD law? From what I've gathered the answer is no, but I figured it was worth a try. If the answer is no, can anyone recommend a good muzzle device that I can use?

    Thanks

I'd probably go AAC, but is that a banned configuration with the stock muzzle device?

MD law says if a device functions as a flash hider, even with a different name, it's a flash hider. So be careful what you put on it. You can then put a folder on it as mentioned. Only one evil copycat feature allowed per FSA 2013

    1. Folding stock
    2. Flash supressor (see above)
    3. Grenade launcher

    OAL > 29" GTG there

Yeah I'm just not 100% sure what the stock device is classified as.

make a judgement call if you have to I guess . But a muzzle break is a lot less of a flash hider than a regular flash hider. It's function is to reduce recoil so that would seem a better choice IMO.

    IANAL

This is actually a good idea, since it's not like you can mount a can on it while in MD anymore, due to it functioning as a flash suppressor.

I guess you're right... I had planned on the AAC mount so I could put a can on it but I guess the can and a folder is also a no-go... These arbitrary laws...
