So a little over two weeks ago I ordered a service grade and field grade Garand from CMP (I already have a few, but can you really have too many). I was out of town and fed ex messed up my vacation hold but I got the field grade today, an early 1945 war production model Springfield Armory. All I can say is that I couldn't have hoped for a better field grade. Numbers are +1 Muzzle and a 2 Throat. Looks like the original barrel, lock bar sights, and trigger group. Oh, and an original un cut operating rod. Even the stock looks right with the right cartouches. Only thing I've found so far that isn't correct is the bolt which is 50's post war production. The service grade, which should be delivered tomorrow, could look like a beat up tent post and I'd still be thrilled with this order. I can't say enough times, if you want a Garand, get them from CMP NOW! While you still can.

Great rifle! I've been kicking the can down the road for too long and need to get my CMP Garands! I had planned to send away after tax refunds were in but life got in the way as usual. Post pictures of the 2nd rifle when you get them and again great rifle, I'm trying to snag two H&Rs before they're gone.

The stock is worth 200 to 400 alone, you got your moneys worth.

Really? I didn't know that. I was focusing more on the lock bar sights and the uncut operating rod. Yeah, it isn't rare, but definitely uncommon to see a WW2 rifle that appears to have escaped going through an arsenal rebuild and still have most of its original parts. Going to break out the jewelers loop and start looking at the small parts tonight to see if it is almost all correct or just all the big pieces other then the bolt. Right now though, it looks like it is likely all correct and original except the bolt to the best of my knowledge (which is limited)

Got the SA Service grade. Will post pics this evening. Its a typical mix master. HRA Trigger group, mixed SA parts.... GI Stock. Should be a good shooter. Finish is better then the field grade, but that field grade has history!

I have been wanting one for a while but I am afraid to spend that much coin on a rifle I cant place eyes on. If there was a guarantee to get one like that I would gladly order but I am scared.

You cant loose with a cmp rifle in my mind. If you hate it take it to the next gun show marked up 100 bucks and you can prob sell it in a an hr.

Wow, I'd be thrilled if I got that one. Are you going to remove the plastic "276" sticker? or leave it?

As promised, some pics of the SA service grade that was delivered today. Its a post war mixmaster. Muzzle 2+ and Throat 3+. It is certainly a lot nicer then the Field Grade finish wise. Last pic is of it tucked away with its brothers and sisters....

Did I read that right? It only took two weeks to get your rifles from CMP? I thought it took months for them to send them out.

Yup. Since they started selling field grades mail order and made service grade luck of the draw on manufacturer (which right now means SA since the HRAs are still back ordered from earlier this year), they are pretty much caught up and shipping at 2 weeks.

I received my last service grade last week and it only took a week to get it! Still have not gotten around to posting pics but the stock does not have any circle P or other cartouches. It s 193****SN from 1943 with a 43 barrel. +1 and +1. Looks like an HRA Trigger IHC Bolt and still looking at the rest.

They are moving them so fast right now!
