Such as the HK416 with a 16.5" barrel. These should be legal in MD as long as they don't have a folding stock and are under 29" aol? Is this correct?

The HK piston gun is listed as BANNED on the MSP Website on the AW List. Or it was a few weeks ago...

It still is. It's just an example of MSP's capricious and willy-nilly application of the law. There is no legal justification for that rifle to be banned, yet banned it is because someone put it on the list, and it'll likely take court action to get it off.

On what grounds? "Copy of AR-15"?

How can a piston AR be a copy?

How many interchangeable parts are required for anything to be considered a copy? Does it require ALL, or does it only take ONE?

( Only partly joking ) You ask MSP for guidence , they'll give you guidence. May not be what you want , what is logical , or even legal under the actual ststutes , but they'll be glad to give you guidence.

Yeah, I don't get it the law only lists the following HK's: Heckler and Koch HK-91 A3, HK-93 A2, HK-94 A2 and A3. So how they are getting that the 416 is banned is beyond me. I thought they had to follow the laws as written?

Their apparent justification would be that it is a "copy" of the Colt AR15. Of course it's not, legally, because it does not have interchangeable internal parts with the AR15, but golly, it looks just like one so it's gotta be evil.

Is the Sig 556 banned also?
Combo AR/AK If they had a baby it would be a SIG 556.
Mechanically speaking, it's essentially an AK. But it also has the tight build tolerances and, arguably, the better ergonomics of an AR. And IMHO, and owing to it's Swiss heritage, the 556 has one of the best triggers to be found on an EBR.

There's been an issue with people having bought the Sig 556 unregulated only to get visits from the MSP wanting them to do regulated paperwork on them, apparently on the grounds that the 556 is a copy of the 550/551.

However, the 556r is okay since it's in 7.62x39.

It's not as deadly with that bigger boolit.
