Looking for food grade 55 gal drums or other larger water storage containers. Does anyone have a supplier or know where to buy them. Willing to travel to lower PA and DE.

I heard you can get them from Pepsi or Coke (I don't remember which) towards Baltimore.

Take them and wash them and you are good to go.

I've bought them from the the milk plant on 7th street in Frederick, MD. They were used for some food grade chemicals, but are safe for water. I think they were twenty dollars each. I can go by and ask if they have any if you are interested in driving up.

Hell, for that price I'd be curious.

Let me know if you do check....

I was never clear how storing water in these barrels works... How long does it stay good?
It wouldn't be much of a backup if it had to be changed out and refreshed frequently...

I got 3 at the coke plant in Baltimore for free. The guy there said they donate hundreds of them to the stadiums for recycling containers. They are a little more then 55 gals though. I think they are 60. see this link for purification ihttp://www.emd.wa.gov/preparedness/documents/piy_water.pdf if you are on a well.

That is true. The Hyattsville and Baltimore Pepsi plant sell them for $5 or 10.

I am not sure if these numbers are still good, but this is the info from when I set up rain collection:

Baltimore Pepsi Plant - Barrels are $5 each. 1650 Union Ave,
    Baltimore. Charlie Dickerson, 410.554.7785.

Hyattsville Pepsi Plant - Barrels are $10 each. Howard Turk, Recycling
    Coordinator, 301.583.7260 or 301.322.7000
