Why don't they pass a law that requires all those little bastards to comply when a cop tells you to stop and put something down?

I think many saw this coming when they announced this story.

And two posts above nailed it.

I can hear some low life parent now. Telling their kid to go out and play with a BB gun and ignore da POPO. Thinking they'll get a six mil payday.

    It wasn't fkn "replica gun"!!

A replica is carved out of a bar of soap, or made of wood, or two toilet paper tubes tied together...

This was, more accurately, a "realistic copy" BB/pellet gun.

I wanted to reach through the radio today when they were all over "replica" and "phony".

That thing could have been dangerous, and is (at distance) indistinguishable from an actual 92FS.

If the report of the kid turning back to the officers is correct? I can't blame them.

Instead they should ban replica parents. They look like the real thing at first glance but don't function as them at all.

Isn't there a minimum age (18) to purchase air soft and BB/pellet guns? Or is that just a stores policy?

I don't agree with an outright ban, but there needs to be some responsibility on the end of the purchaser/possessor. While it isn't considered a firearm, like Mr. H stated these rifles/pistols can cause some serious injury or even death.

That's precisely why airgun manufacturers have fought the orange tip laws for BB and pellet guns for years. I'd invite anyone who thinks a pellet gun isn't a potentially deadly weapon to Google some of Jim Shockey's hog hunting videos. If something can take down a 250 lb. boar with one shot it can certainly do the same to a person.

The same sad crap that happened in the Tamir Rice case. Cop shot kid with air soft gun that the red safety cap was taken off. Father even stated he didn't blame the cop. Now family gets $6 million settlement. Sounds like this kids parents figured they can get the same deal. It is a "real" gun that happens to fire bbs. Another case of lack of parenting and respect for authority. When LEO says "drop it", "freeze", "hands in the air" it is not a suggestion or a recommendation...it is a lawful order. People need to comply or suffer the consequences. Cold fact of life. Race is not an issue in this case...common sense is.

Just saw this on eBay. Aside from being a really bad idea, is this a knife or a replica-gun?

I wonder what they will do about the thousands or more replicas that are already out there if their stupid little ban flies? Offer gift cards for people to turn them in?

Orange tips are a bad idea period. Criminals have been known to paint the muzzles of real guns orange. If it looks like a gun, you cannot afford to hesitate while you try to figure out what it is..

I'm about 99.999% certain that BB guns are already banned in Baltimore.

They are but this one was evidently "spring loaded."

The panda bomber at fox 45 today was described as having a replica bomb.
