I heard part of a press conference with the Balto police chief about this incident. He was talking about Mr. Nutcase receiving 4 rounds from the too-deadly-for-Maryland-civilians AR while he kept walking away. He said that the SWAT team is not trained to shoot extremities, but to shoot to stop the threat, which as everyone here already knows means they aim for center mass. So he just admitted that his so-called sniper can't shoot worth a damn!

Makes one wonder, what outrage would have occurred if the Pandaguy would have been a man of color? The question has to be asked!

Yeah, after I saw the first news reports I was worried that the white people in the city might be rioting today...

In this instance, they would not shoot center mass for fear of hitting the explosives in the vest. So they would be forced to shoot around the explosives.

In another era when people weren't chicken sh*ts, a lawman would have ID'd this guy as a lunatic and simply walked up to him and punched him in the nuts. Game over, Sonic the Hedgehog, thanks for playing. Now we got Tacticools with robots pulling his clothes off. I'm embarrassed for the male sex. Harry Callahan, where have you gone? The world needs you more than ever.

Actually, the chief did say specifically that the sniper would have been trying to shoot CM, and hitting the extremities was not intentional. (Unstated explicitly: this was just bad shooting on the part of the sniper.) From seeing the video, they waited until he had walked out of the building and away from anyone other than police officers, so this did look like really their best chance to take him out while minimizing injuries to other people, even if it did mean setting off the supposed bomb vest.

It could be his zero. A lot of SWAT guys focus so much on the entry tasks they deal with they have their rifles zeroed for 7 yards and completely forget that rifles can be used other places too.

A friend of mine has a "house" upper and an outside upper. Just for such an occasion.

ETA This is based off of the presumption that the officer who fired shots was using an AR and not a "sniper rifle".

Shooting c4, semtex, etc...would most likely result in nothing. So there's that.

I thought the AR was a sniper rifle. Or should I be doing air-quotes when I see "sniper rifle," expecting a <wink> <wink> <nudge> <nudge> <knowhatImean>? Now I'm left wondering if the police actually have military-grade ARs, and also if the high-capacity magazine-clip-mabob affects accuracy.

    So confused.
